With a shared mission to encourage parents and children to get out on the trail, Merrell and Hike it Baby have announced a partnership to provide families with the tools, gear and resources they need to head out for a hike. Through this partnership, Merrell and Hike it Baby will develop programs for families, to inspire outdoor exploration and demonstrate how accessible, fun and rewarding hiking is for families with babies and young children.
FOR YOUR LITTLE HIKER
QUICK TRAIL TIPS
GO WITH OTHERS
Kids help kids adventure further. Backpacking with a group can make a journey (and carrying things like tents, pots and pans, food and a stove) easier if you have a little group joining you. Also when you forget something, another parent is bound to have remembered the forgot item.
Just because you are excited to go backpacking to a cool lake you did pre-kiddos, it doesn't mean it's kid-friendly. I have definitely returned to adventures that I did pre-Mason and thought they were kid-appropriate only to discover that I forgot about the long, boring 2-mile approach in on a trail that can kill a little child's enthusiasm to get to the good stuff.
PICKING PROPER FOOTWEAR
Children's feet grow rapidly, gaining up to a full size every three months! In addition, many children have wide feet... even if they don't appear wide. This makes measuring your child's foot super important when looking to find a pair of shoes that fit well. Check out this handy sizing chart to help you determine the proper shoe size for your child.

Stash a refillable water bottle, some snacks, hiking shoes, socks and a carrier in your car. You're less likely to realize you forgot something once you get to the trailhead and you'll be ready for an impromptu adventure.
USE HIKE TIME AS NAP TIME
Even the most stubborn nappers have a hard time refusing sleep in a carrier or stroller. And you'll get some quiet time and fresh air.
