  • Why do you get outside?

I feel the best in the outdoors. It takes me away from life’s mundane stresses. I feel the most connect to mother earth and nature as a whole when I get time outside. The more we spend connecting mindfully the more w are conscious of how we can protect mother earth and take care of her. Sustainability comes from first establishing a “why”. Going outside helps!

  • Tell us about your favorite hiking experience to date. Who were you with? What made it memorable? Where were you? Set the scene!

My partner and I took our van to Colorado during the winter. We were camping in buena vista, CO. I couldn’t sleep so I got up and went on a solo hike. There was snow covering all the mountains and reflecting light. It was truly magical. I felt so at peace there by myself watching the sun come up the horizon.

  • What advice do you have for women who are just getting into outdoor adventures?

Jump in! I did not grow up outdoorsy but I always wanted to try but didn’t know how. Link up with women groups in your area. The more you go with a buddy the more confidence you build. You can also make friends who like outdoor activities through Meetup groups and BumbleBBF. There are so many amazing gals that also want a buddy to do adventures with. We all start somewhere!

  • What’s one thing you wish you’d been aware of when you started out?

There is so many unspoken trail etiquette. From how to interact with horses to how far away you have to bury your you-know-what. I recommend Bearfoot Theory for trail etiquette.

The biggest thing I wish I knew was that you don’t have to plan elaborate hikes to get started. You don’t need every gadget. Start by hiking your turf. Go on longer walks and explore city and state parks.

  • How do you prepare for a hike?

Snacks! Is it really a hike without yummy snacks? I pack something to not only give me fuel to hike but motivation. A sandwich at the top of a mountain can make the hard parts worth it. Plenty of water, first aid kit, my oura ring, sunscreen, long sleeves to protect from the sun and a hat. I research the area and read reviews. I don’t do much prep for a day hike just make sure I have all the tools I need to stay safe.

  • What are your 5 hiking essentials you never hit the trail without?

Water, Knife, Sun protection, Headlamp, again snacks but other than snacks, a First aid kit because so much can go wrong.

  • What does ‘outdoorsy’ mean to you?

Anyone can be outdoorsy! I like pink and exercise dresses but you’ll find me exploring trails, swimming, paddling, and biking. You don’t need to prove anything to be in this club. Everyone is welcome! No matter what you or your body looks like.
