Annelie is an adventurer and athlete, key note speaker and author from Gothenburg, Sweden. Best know for her world record free dive to 126m and then summiting mount Everest only 6 months later. She is an avid hiker, hiking guide, teacher and MERRELL ambassador.

Route:

This is a beautiful and adventurous hike along the beautiful rocks, valleys and little forests on the very western tip of the island of Hönö. It’s got the most beautiful sunsets you can imagine, all year round. There are beautiful spots for wild swimming, yoga, fishing, bird watching, snorkelling as well as some of Swedens’ most famous bouldering places for climbers. Part of the hike follows the ‘kuststigen’ trail which is marked in blue. Parking spot is called ‘Ersdalens Naturreservat.

The Look

Super grippy on the rocks, and good protection for the wrist while hiking on uneven terrain

ROGUE HIKER

I’m a proud ambassador for hiking - and it goes really well with yoga. This yoga mat packs small for your hike and is environmentally friendly.

Field Notes:

I have travelled to the world’s 7 continents, but this its the most beautiful place I know in the world. There’s something about the wild ocean and the soft rocks, mixed with little forest patches along the trail. There’s also the fantastic opportunity to both climb and snorkel/freedive along the trail. I spend the summers here as a child, and I’m still childishly in love with the place.

Good To Know

The Swedish west coast unfortunately gets lots of marine littering, so please bring a bag to collect some litter as a thank you to this beautiful spot.

"The mountain always has many things to teach us."

When To Visit

Summertime in time with the sunset. The rocks are very slippery after rains and in snow.

Q+A:

You held the record for climbing the highest and diving the deepest - What similarities did you find between the two?

Both are about finding the beauty in extremes, together with other people. They are also about being alive, breathing or not breathing. I have always been curious by nature. I want to see how far/deep/high I can go. I love training and exercise to see how far I can take my body, but also what I can accomplish by training my mindset.

What do you love about doing yoga in nature?

It makes the practise so much better and more enjoyable. It also makes it more challenging with wind or uneven ground. I use the Merrell x Yogibare packable mat as a ritual to start my yoga-practise. I bring it on hikes and travels as it’s lightweight and easy to carry.

What advice would you like to share to younger women?

Breathe to calm yourself down and find your inner passion. Don’t believe everything you think, or what other people think.

Hiking Tips:

  • Be safe and plan your route ahead
  • Be weather wise, check the forecast
  • Take the correct clothing and provisions
  • Check if dogs/ camping/ BBQs etc are allowed
  • Take your litter with you
  • Leave gates as you find them
  • Have fun!
