GODZone finishing celebrations
Events

It’s over. After five days, 20 hours and 24 minutes, the four members of the new look Team Merrell crossed the finish line, and celebrated with some well earned champagne.

Only 22 of the 41 teams who started the race completed it, so suffice it to say we’re very proud of our Alphas!

It was 4am on the final day that Team Merrell – looking understandably tired – made the transition from bikes to trekking the trail that would take them to the final leg of GODZone.

After trekking through the night along the coast, they arrived at Spy Glass Point for the 28km kayak section that would see them crossing the finish line. But due to rough sea conditions, the safety officer instructed the team to paddle to South Bay and then trek the final 5km to the finishing line.

Graham, Tobias, Ben and Sabrina looked exhausted but immensely proud as they arrived, ready to enjoy a much needed rest and a long flight home from New Zealand. What began as four athletes who had never met ended as five bonded by a truly unforgettable experience, and an amazing achievement.

We were on hand to film the highlights of the journey, and we will be turning this epic trail into a truly epic film. Tune in to The Pack soon for the video featuring all the highs and lows of this incredible race.

But for now, please join us in congratulating our team in the comments. Massive congratulations, team!

    What shoes are they wearing?

Ben was using the ‘All out Rush’ which he rated highly. It has a wide toe area which suit expedition length adventure races. Have not tried the shoe out myself but about to try it based on the feedback from Ben.
