Lyon City Exploration

By Laura Foutrak

Lyon, FranceCountry Flag

Laura is a lover of both the city and nature, and Lyon has always been her playground. Sharing her passion for the trail on Instagram, she loves meeting new people and hosting events. Alone, with her mother or friends, she explores Lyon and the surrounding area whenever possible.

Route

Starting in front of the Saint Paul station, I walk along the banks of the Saône, passing in front of the city's well-known painted walls before crossing the river to enter old Lyon and get lost in the "traboules". Finally, I recommend you go up to Fourvière for a panoramic view of the city... and Mont Blanc in good weather!

Field Notes:

I chose this route because it mixes Lyon's history and modernity, urban and nature and this route is accessible to everyone. You have beautiful views of the landscapes, places to stop for a picnic and the place I like the most is the panorama from Fourvière. Along the way, stop at "Terre Adélice" for an ice cream or at "Maison Pralus" to buy a "praluline", our Lyonnaise specialty. Just be aware: there are many stairs!

"I like to discover my city in new ways."

When To Visit

It’s great at all times of the year - just try to avoid a very rainy day.

Q&A

Why do you love urban hiking in Lyon?

I like to discover my city in new ways and I like to feel my body in motion - without using a car or public transport.

3 favourite places to hike in France?

Bretagne (gr34, a long trail), le Pilat (mountain in Loire, 1h15 from Lyon) and all hikes in the Alps!

Favourite MHC event you’ve hosted?

« Riverie, le plus petit village du Rhône », A lovely walk with a great group and activities together (a picnic and a visit to a woman with goats to learn how to make cheese) in the smallest village in the Rhône. It was a sunny day with lots of great conversatons and new friendships made.

What is your life motto?

You have to enjoy every moment as if it were your last and when you think you have a problem, look for the best solution to adapt.
