Comfortable and grippy on a wide variety of trails - I live in central PA so mostly rocks and roots.

Sizing and fit of the Verterras are great! I am a loyal Merrell shoe wearer and the 10.5 fits like the Moab and Chameleon shoes I have had before. Main issue with this shoe is the lack of traction on anything wet. I hike in the woods of Vermont on a regular basis and have found the wet roots and rocks that are frequently found here to be quite slippery. I like the uppers a lot, they fit like a glove and are lightweight! I bought the non-waterproof model and find them to be a great option for the fall hiking season here in New England. I am not sure why one would need a waterproof liner put in these shoes, especially with the poor wet weather performance of the rubber soles. The standard suede uppers seem waterproof enough. In my opinion the Verterra upper with the Moab or Chameleon soles would be a better match for the wet rooty and rocky terrain found in New England. The Moab uppers with the Verterra soles would be the ideal desert hiking shoe, especially with the much more ventilated Moab uppers. It would be cool to see Merrel make some regional/terrain appropriate shoes.
