I used to have Hi-Tec boots. They were heavy, uncomfortable, and didn't do me much good in hot temperatures. After years of dealing with chaffed ankles, athletes foot, and blisters, I finally made the choice to get some better boots. So I talked to my friend who is always hiking whenever the trail is dry, and he recommended Merrells. I went down to the local sports store, tried them on, and fell IN LOVE WITH THEM! I can't tell anyone enough how much I love these shoes. I don't even eel them on my feet. It's like they were custom made for my feet. I'm never going to buy any other brand, and now, I have to prepare for my hike to the top of Half-Dome in Yosemite.

I work 6 days a week on a golf-course in western Pennsylvania... I put these boots to the ultimate test by wearing them every day for 8+ hours in varied weather conditions. These boots are great for summer weather. My feet do not sweat at all in these boots, and they are extremely comfortable. However, and for me this is a BIG however, these boots are NOT 100% waterproof... I will say that they are highly water resistant, but if I'm wearing these boots on a dewy morning, my feet get wet... if I'm wearing these boots on a rainy day, my feet get wet... if I'm wearing these boots on a dry day, and accidently step in a puddle, or spray my foot with a hose while cleaning off a piece of equipment, my feet get wet... and this is not because water is getting in through the top opening of the boot, they seem to get wet near the toes.. particularly near the big toe, and the water continues to absorb into the insole. As far as I can tell, there are no visible defects in the interior or exterior of the boot. I'm on my second pair this month, the first pair was returned for the same reason.. I was convinced there was a defect in the Gore-Tex so I got another pair and the same thing happened. Either I'm unlucky, or these are NOT WATERPROOF. Sorry this is review is so long, I hope its helpful for anyone looking to buy these.

These are the best hiking boots I ever had - light and comfortable from the first day. The membrane is really doing great job , they are breathing enough in a hot day, while preventing water to get in when it rains. I've been with them on the most rainy treks and they kept me warm all the time. Although it's surely not what they were designed for, I used them with great success also in winter in snow (with usage of snow covers over their top - not sure how to say it in English). They still didn't allow any wetness in. Now after 4-5 years of rough use, they are still overall in very good shape, but goretex membrane has worn out (which is normal when used in boots), so I'm going to buy a new pair.

This is my 2nd pair of Merrell hiking boots, but my first pair in the light weight class. Absolutely love them, use them for shorter day hikes, and recently used them on a 9 day backpacking trip in the High Serrias. Super comfortable, very quick break in much like a new pair of running/tennis shoes. I am able to wear them with heavier and lighter socks depending on the temperature and distance. Waterproof shoes are warmer than non-waterproof, these very comfortable in warm and cool temperatures. Very happy with them in the low 80's to low 30's, I always wear some version of a wool sock with these and they breathe/wick well when it is warm out. Support is fine given the light weight, even when carrying a 60 pound pack. I have a narrow foot, and the regular width was perfect.
