These are my first Merrell purchase and so far I’m very happy with my purchase, I ordered these shoes online to replace my salomon XA pro 3d ultra 2 gtx as they where no longer water resistant. The idea was to use these as my bad wether walking and hiking shoes, because I’ve found that gore tex running shoes where very bulky and un nimble to run in, I would always just run in my summer shoes and except the fact I was to get wet feet. Since iv received these shoes they have become my number one winter running shoe, I’m wearing these things every day running in the rain, through boggy marshes, freshly ploughed fields and so far no wet feet for me. They do slip in very slippery mud conditions, but this is fine with me as I feel only a shoe like the Inov8 Bare Grip or Salomon’s Fell Cross would have a chance to grip in the conditions I’m talking about. I would have liked a little more structure in the upper around the heel, as it feels like you could slip your heel out with not to much effort regardless of how tight you tie your lasses, but again whilst running never noticed it much, also a more wrapping style fit around your foot when tightening the laces would be a lot nicer, as to feel like you are well locked in your shoe with out having to cutting the circulation to tour feet (Salomon senses do this awesomely), apart from that very happy so far with these shoes, users should be advised though that they are a zero drop shoe and although used to running with minimal shoes I spent the summer running with a 4mm drop shoe, and definitely had quite sore calfs the mornings after each run with the Bare Access Trails’s for at least a week. Hope my two cents helps in making your decision, happy running every body, don’t be afraid to get out there and experience the elements this winter.

I bought an older design of the bare access trail a couple years ago and while they were warm, I found the soles to be quite slippery; especially on wet surfaces and I sent a letter expressing my thoughts. This new design seems to have resolved that issue and I'm really happy with how light they are and how well they hold to the ground. My feet stay warm and dry which I really needed as we go into winter. They also look so much nicer in the orange and black. Thanks Merrell! Keep it up. I'm starting to build a collection for all seasons.

This is a solid, well constructed shoe that is much stiffer and heavier than the barefoot trails. They're really a winter only shoe as I find my feet overheat in them with the current Autumn weather. Sizing matches other Merrell shoes.
