Why Merrell Barefoot!

Merrell guest blogger Piers Stockwell tells us why Merrell Barefoot works for him.

As an ultra runner, I am looking for complete efficiency and strength to keep me from getting injured and push me further and faster on less energy. Merrell barefoot shoes keep my form efficient and strong by giving me the proprioception I need to keep a good circular movement pattern with my feet underneath me. Durability of the shoes is fantastic and capable of dealing with high mileage over rough terrain without falling apart. Wearing Merrell shoes daily helps keep the bones and connective tissue strong in my feet, reducing my risk of injury and keeping my feet healthy. The soles of Merrell barefoot are just the right stiffness to let me feel the ground under my feet while still protecting me from the rocks coming through which is an aspect often over looked by other barefoot shoe manufacturers designing barefoot shoes that can only be used on road.

As a personal trainer Merrell shoes help me to keep balanced and fully connected to the ground underneath me while lifting and moving weights around the gym. By spending many hours in Merrell shoes, they help me to keep my gluteal muscles strong by preventing me from walking on my heels and keep my posture correct and my movement patterns efficient. The shoes provide me with enough arch support to keep my foot from collapsing and helping to make the arch muscles (plantar facia) stronger.

Merrell shoes keep my feet healthy as well as allow me to run efficiently and injury free so that I can win races of any distance.

Would you recommend these runners for someone with mortons neuroma and I also fractured my 5th metatarsal 9 months ago, healed great but then fractured same bone on other foot! A friend suggested these runners because I have very flat feet!( I always run in asics) My thing is running and would be grateful for any advice! Thank you!

Hi Tierney We have gotten a lot of great feedback that Merrell Barefoot has helped people with various foot issues. Our research shows that 0mm drop footwear and a forefoot based running technique can help strengthen your feet. However we aren’t doctors so aren’t fully familiar with your issue. We would strongly recommend consulting with your Doctor or physio to discuss in more detail before trying anything. Like all new things, we advise to start slow and listen to your body especially with the two different issues you mention. Best of luck keep us posted if you go this route.
