For Dad - by , Sep 13, 2018

I bought these for my Dad who, recently retired after 33 years as a Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant and declared he is planning to hike the entirety of the Appalachian Trail. I immediately bought him these Moab 2s as I wore the exact boot through three tours as an Infantry Marine in Afghanistan myself (as some will know issued gear is great, but Afghanistan is tough, so off the shelf gear is authorized for wear). They are literally battle tested, and came out the other side without issues. The Appalachian Trail will be challenge enough for the old Marine, he shouldn't have to worry about his feet.

Very, very HOT! - by , Aug 25, 2018

Purchased the gore-tex boots after being told by Merrel that only gore-tex offfer true water proofing. That may be so, but the complete lack of ventilation make the boots extremely hot. I wore them during a 2 week warm weather trip that included several moderate hikes. My feet got so hot that I ended up wearing the boots untied all the time except when the terrain required tying them. I purchased this shoe because my 10 year old Merrells finally met their faith. Those were the best shoes I've worn. Not sure what changed, but these are no good.

Merrell Quality as Usual - by , Aug 25, 2018

After wearing these every day for a couple of weeks, I've had no problems. They are very comfortable and sturdy, on paved and unpaved walks. I sized up 1/2 size to use an orthotic and the fit seems good.

Comfortable Hiking Boot - by , Aug 10, 2018

Fit to size. I wear size 13 in running shoes but 12 in dress shoes. These are size 12 and fit perfect. 13's were too big. Hiked 7.5 miles in the mountains yesterday out of the box. Boots felt great. No issues.

Worst Shoes - by , Aug 06, 2018

I have been using Merrell shoes for the last 10 years and these are the worst. They were purchased 6-8 months ago and are already falling apart. The damaged area is towards the front plastic portion. I could see this happening to a cheap set of shoes but not to a Merrell. They get 2-3 days of usage a week and at the most 4-6 hours of wear time, walking distance maybe 3-5 miles per day. Depending on weather sometimes not even once a week. They are of such poor quality that I’m thinking of going back to Salomon. Merrell please go back to your old standards, I’m only one customer and I know it won’t make that much of a difference but my money is going somewhere else. Thanks

Great boot for a great price - by , Jul 27, 2018

I bought these boots for backpacking in the Winds. Straight out of the box I did about 50 miles in a week and no blisters, no rolled ankles, my feet were a little sore but nothing major for no break in time.

Sizing and sole may be bad, maybe i got a bad set. - by , Jun 25, 2018

Took them out on a three day scouting trip. Bought them with true to size in mind and by the time they broke in after 8 plus hours of rucking, with a 50 pound pack and me weighing 170, my feet were swimming. Tried tightening to compensate and no solution found there. Hotspots and blisters came after the end of the first day unfortunately. Try these on in store and keep in mind the stretch out. Also on the Vibram sole I have bits missing. Something on the terrain was the culprit for these pieces taken out and they aren't exactly huge chunks but over the course of a dozen or so trips, this will definitely be problematic. The shoes have the potential to be great, unfortunately my experience with them was not. Maybe I got a bad batch. Who knows.

Fine. Alright. I'm impressed. I admit it. - by , Jun 21, 2018

I was pretty skeptical reading all the reviews about 'no break-in required' and 'most comfortable boot.' But to my surprise, right out of the box, I have had absolutely no issues with these boots at all. I took these on a four day backpacking loop in CO three days after I received them in the mail, expecting to have to break them in and possible blister issues, and praying to god for no sizing issues. To my surprise, I had no sizing problems at all, and these were by far and away the most comfortable boot I've worn. I was the only member in my party of four who didn't have any blister issues the entire trip, after several eight mile days. Yep, alright, you impressed me Merrell. As far as durability, these seem top-notch as well. I didn't have any issues on the trail at all. In my experience, these are actually waterproof, as I know I read other reviews for different models of the MOAB2 that had water issues. I walked through quite a few (relatively shallow) water crossings and never had any issues with the Gore-Tex model. Sizing was as expected, if not a tiny bit small. Nothing terrible though. Overall, 9/10 experience.

Purchased these for my September trip to Mongolia. Light weight will be appreciated carrying them in my back pack to travel there. Great look too!

Second-best footwear ever! - by , Jun 08, 2018

What can I say - I had a pair of Birkenstock sandals for nearly 30 years. What could ever top them? But these boots are AMAZING! Straight out of the box, no break in, these are the most comfortable boots/shoes I've ever had. Banking on the size of a 10-year-old pair of Merrills I had tucked away in the closet, I ordered the same size, and it's perfect. No crowding in the toes, excellent support for my arches. Have put some flat dirt trail miles on them, a little scrambling around on some limestone, and plenty of general walking -- totally loving them. We'll see how they stand up after a few months and a little more serious hiking, but first impressions are that I wouldn't care to own any other boot ever.
