It's a great pair of boots. - by , Mar 20, 2019

I wear them while hiking with our dogs. Good looking boots that I wear when walking downtown for dinner.

Great comfort day 1 - by , Mar 17, 2019

Picked these up as an impulse purchase in Taipei to climb Cising Mtn in a dense fog. Super light, super comfortable, it was only one mile up over an hour but compared to my Lowa's (15 miles last weekend in the backcountry of Guadalupe Nat'l Park) these were a real delight.

GORETEX NOT WATERPROOF - by , Feb 26, 2019

Today I went hiking in fields. Along the way I passed from a puddle and it leaked from outside and felt the socks wet which when I went home they were wet. I have the goretex version of the moab 2 and normally goretex is the best material for waterproofing. I am also a serving military member so I know what I am talking about

First I would like to state I'm a big of your boots.. I did experience a failure with my last pair of J06047, (I believe they), at the front right sole.. But that stuff happens.. Didn't hold any regrets, bc I know Merrell's typical quality, and the replacement service & turn-around is reasonable. The only problem was, that particular boot went out of production (loved them!) & I had to supply 3 choices of comparable replacements to customer service. (Your service lady's are all excellent, btw!). I assume due to availability, I was sent this boot, and ofc it fit like a glove out of the box, like Merrell's do.. but over the past 2 weeks I've experienced what I think is a design flaw and much discomfort bc of it.. My old pair had leather across the top of the toes & shed water immediately. This pair has gortec fabric across the top and doesn't shed moisture immediately, but absorbs water. Technically water remains outside the boot, but because it holds water/moisture, this moisture becomes very cold from the outside temperature's and my feet "feel soaked", and my toes literally freeze.(3 pairs socks on today & still I'm moved /propelled to write this during lunch). I've stopped dead at work a half doz times the past cpl of weeks to check my socks, I've been just so convinced that my feet were soaked.. but it's just the moisture being held by the fabric that's freezing.. This sensation begins the moment I walk across wet grass at work or at home (like wearing cloth cross trainer sneakers in the rain, if anyone can relate). Extremely uncomfortable and distracting. I'm a surveyor, (& also volunteer fire) so the work terrain is more often literally hiking through grass, trails, and woods all day for miles on end, but and I can't afford distractions. I really wish I could exchange these boots for one of my other selections, as the absolute need for comfortable & reliable footwear is paramount for me.. I'd like to continue to go with Merrell brand.. Thanks for what you guys do, just this one, isn't for me..

Best boot until the soul fell off - by , Jan 26, 2019
3/ 5 Stars
I've had three pairs of this boot. The 1 pair lasted 6 yrs, the last pair, the soul fell off the boot while hiking the second day in the mountains of Big Bend Nat. Pk. Only 1 year old with less than 40 miles on them. Only worn for hiking. Tied it on with a green tree branch so I could get 10 miles back to the truck. Bought another pair that turned out to be not waterproof.

This shoes could be better - by , Jan 06, 2019

Dear Merrell, I love hiking, I've hiked almost 11 years to date. And throughout these 11 years of hiking, I've used many different brand of hiking shoes. And when comes to Merrell, I did my research for this model & viewed many reviews of it and I comes to a conclusion that I need to get this as my previous hiking shoes were wearing out. But after 9 months of using it, I was quite disappointed due to it did not perform the 3 main features as follows :- First, this shoes were supposed to be waterproof but unfortunately I experienced twice whereby it couldn't even withstand rain water from entering the shoes. Bear in mind that I was using an umbrella and I noticed that rain water seeped into the shoes thru the toe box. Second, this shoes were supposed to support & protect the ankles due to its mid build but unfortunately I sprained by right ankle 2 weeks ago. And third, which is to me the most critical one, I find that the Vibram sole on this shoes does not produce enough grip and traction as it supposed to be. Just yesterday I fell during when I hiked thru a rock with slight running stream water. FYI, the running stream water are less than 5mm. The following are the terrains which I experienced poor gripping/traction using this shoes :- 1) Muddy surface 2) Rock with watery surface 3) Trails covered with leaves 4) Dry sandy surface 5) Watery asphalt surface Aside from the cons above, I do find this shoes very comfortable due to its breathable materials and it is quite light for a pair of hiking shoes. Anyway, I hope Merrell could looks into this and come out with a better design to counter the above.
