Q&A
Q: What is one outdoor hack/tip you've learned that you wish you knew when you were getting started?
A: One thing I learned after a few months of running trails was the various techniques needed for terrain and elevation. I tried to always run up all the hills and then stop to reset my heart rate. The best tip was power hiking, and being able to get to the top with a controlled HR and get there faster this way.
Q: Where in Canada is your favourite trail to hike/run + why?
A: Hamilton, definitely. We have so many trails and waterfalls. Every season all the trails change and it feels like a different place. Choices of terrain and elevation are all around me and endless.
Q: What 5 items do you never start an adventure without?
A: Coconut water, dried sweetened cranberries with sea salt, hat, fully charge phone and funky socks.
Q: What is your favourite Merrell product + why?
A: Currently I'm rocking the Merrell Agility Peak 4. These trail shoes are my favourite not just for the amazing grip and comfort, but it's helped reduce my plantar fasciitis injury. With the help of Physio, mobility and strength training I'm able to have a pain free adventure. Also the colourways they offer are dope.
Q: Thinking back to your first outdoor experience, what advice would you give to your younger self now that you know what you know now?
A: Find a friend to go out with to make it a fun experience. Going out solo running when I started was tough, mentally. So many negative thought to process because it was just me and my self confidence depleting. Eventually I got past that, but it was when I ran with others who enjoyed the outdoors too.
