Janine is based in Calgary, AB located on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut'ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

I work full-time as a paramedic and enjoy spending most of my free time outdoors. I love hiking for the peace it gives me mentally and sharing that is important to me. There is truly something for everyone and I like helping people find the thing that inspires them.

This trail has it all; from steady incline, to flat spots, to light scramble, and a steep descent depending on which way you go!

4.5k | 1-2 hours
Layers - mountain weather changes quickly! Remember an emergency kit and bear spray.
Adventure - out in nature, away from an urban setting.

Moderate - this is a short distance with minimal elevation gain but some lightly challenging terrain.

Field Notes:

• My dogs and I do this trail annually - I love how short and sweet it is.
• In the summer, you can find wildflowers, and in fall, it is filled with larch trees.
• I recommend going counter-clockwise!

Why do you love hiking?

I always feel a boost in my mental health the week following a hike. I love the physical challenges, I find it really rewarding to complete hikes that intimidate me whether it is because of the trail type or length. It is always a great accomplishment.

What is your hiking essential and why?

I always have a GPS/SOS device with me on the outside of my pack, whether I know the trail well or am with a group of people.

Why is it important to wear the right shoes?

There is nothing worse than rolling an ankle or getting blisters when hiking. The right shoe is important to help prevent and lower the risks of damage to our joints - plus comfort should never be sacrificed.
