would this boot be the warmest/ most waterproof boot you carry? I have owned two pairs of moab gore-tex and they rock! i'm looking for a hunting boot to hike through the rocky mountains in colorado in sometimes over a foot of snow and below zero temps and am wondering if this boot would fit my needs or if I should look at a different model?

Look for the 'snowflake' icon for insulated styles when comparing winter boots. You can also give our customer service a call at 800-288-3124 to go over the mens cold weather styles and how they compare.

I have had these boots for over 1 year, I can't count how many pairs of Merrell boots and shoes I've owned, their last fits my giant feet so you might say I'm a fan, but it's with good reason. I'm a scout leader and avid backpacker / hiker who tries to fit as much trail time in the lovely Pacific Northwest as I can. I've put well over 150 trail miles on them in the North Cascades, Alpine Lakes and Mt. Rainier in Washington State with a full pack and on numerous day hikes, plus several weeks at scout camp. These boots are well built, waterproof and with proper care I expect several more years of use from them as they barely are showing any wear. I'm a big guy, 6' 3" and 240 Lbs. and have a size 15 foot so with a full pack I need a BIG heavy duty backpacking boot. And yes, it does rain here in the PNW, so the need for a waterproof boot is a must. I have never even gotten my feet damp hiking in a downpour, slogging through 3-4" of water on the trail, rock hopping streams or in snow / slush early and late in the season. The fit and stability are great, and the high top and lacing system have saved me from many a rolled ankle. The sole and welt are welcome when traversing scree slopes as they prevent you from tearing the leather up on sharp rocks. The sole provides excellent traction in all conditions and protects you well from stones and roots on the trail. I did invest in a set of aftermarket insoles as the stock insoles are probably OK if you don't do any heavy packing or are a "normal" size person. I also kind of miss the blue laces, but I can buy a pair I guess, just nostalgia I suppose. As far as customer service, I want to say that Merrell stands behind their products 100%, no questions asked. Their service staff is responsive and they go to great lengths to make sure you are taken care of. They helped me out with a pair of boots I bought online that had a manufacturing defect. They could have sent me packing but they exchanged the boots, which had been discontinued, for the pair I have now. There was no hassle for receipts or sending me back to the retailer, just good old fashioned customer service. Thanks Merrell, I was already a loyal customer but you took it to another level!

This boot is also good for tropical and arid environments. Through my pair of Gore-Tex, I'm more confident in moving through the landscape when doing fieldwork and research. It gives enough protection against the sharp things on the forest floor. The height of the cut of the boot has prevented my feet from snapping sideways during bad jumps and landings. I can confidently run using the boots! The effect of wear and tear on the shoes is OK. We, geographers in the Philippines, do fieldwork for about ten days in a row. During those fieldwork periods, I've observed that despite the heavy use in upland areas, the grip of the sole is still great. I've been using the pair for over a year now. Overall, I got what I paid for this dependable pair. I'm looking forward to improved versions, too. :) Sincerely, David Garcia Geographer, Cartographer, and Environmental Planner

I bought these boots for function not a fashion show. They are comfortable and sturdy. I was worried about the leather's durability since it is very soft. I have been pleasantly suprised so far. I've put about 40 miles on these without any complaints. If you want a tough boot that meets the trail head on, I would definitely gives these boots a shot.

I have had these boots for a month or more now and I was finally able to find if they are truly waterproof or not today. Walked about 6 miles today in 6-9 inches of snow and I can say that they are indeed waterproof (unlike the issues I had 2 years ago with the Phaser Peaks and the left foot getting wet in 2 inches of snow). My foot never felt wet even when I went inside at the 4 mile mark and all of the snow melted off the boots. The boots take about 2 days to break in (normal for me of any Merrell boots) and after that, they are good to go. All I can hope is that this pair of boots last this time. I have 4 pairs of boots that I rotate through, so my boots only get worn usually twice a week. I have a pair of Chameleon 4’s that are starting to fall apart after 2 years (left heal strap broke after a month, original laces went in 6 months, shoelaces ripped through the ankle strap about 4 months ago and now the right boot sole is coming apart). The jungle mocs I use to walk to the latrine in the morning and at night, the left shoe at the back, the suede is starting to fall apart. None of these boots or shoes get a lot of wear and tear, but so far they all start to fail about the 2 year mark, I can’t imagine what they would be like if they were worn as an everyday boot/shoe. So for that reason, I can’t give these a 5 star rating at this time, if they last past the 2 year mark without falling apart, then I will come back and rate them as a 5 star, but for now my experience with Merrell boots/shoes is that they are not very durable.
