Walking helped me understand the city, the people, and ultimately, myself.

Between two worlds

  • You grew up in the Parisian suburb of Aubervilliers. What was that like for you?

Growing up in Aubervilliers was like living in two different worlds at once. It's close to Paris, just a 15-minute walk. Still, it felt like another planet. It's a rough area, not as polished as central Paris, and many people from my neighborhood rarely ventured into the city because of the cost. But I always felt drawn to Paris. The first time I walked into the city, it was like stepping into a different reality, one filled with endless possibilities.

  • How has walking been part of your personal journey?

When I was younger, I didn't have a subway card or a bike, so I walked everywhere. It gave me the freedom to explore and discover parts of Paris that I wouldn't have known otherwise. It became a habit that has stuck with me even after I moved into the city. Walking has shaped who I am today - it's my way of understanding the world around me and feeling connected to the city.

  • How does urban hiking fit into your life today?

Walking is still my favorite way to experience the city. Paris is big, but it's best seen on foot. I don't like following the same paths; I always look for new routes and places to explore. It's crazy loud; people are screaming, but somehow, it still feels like home. I walk for hours sometimes, taking in the sounds, the smells, and the atmosphere. It's calming, but it also makes me feel alive.
