I am NEVER disappointed by my Merrell shoes. Every one of my Merrell shoes turns out to be my favorite shoes I own at the time. Keep up the good work Merrell. You have a life-long customer in me! Thank you.

Pretty good trail shoe with some flaws - by , Aug 06, 2019
4/ 5 Stars
The good is that the Momentous is not small, cut rate, like a lot of shoes today. That's a big plus. The vibram soles are aggressive and have good traction. Style is nice. One problem is the laces which are smooth like you would find on a casual shoe. If you are walking in dirt, snow, cold weather, you want something substantial to grab onto if the laces need to be tied. I should mention another plus here: the shoes are not flimsy and can be worn in colder weather. They are ok in hot weather too. The other problem is that the insoles, like most Merrell insoles, are not sufficient for running. I put more substantial ones in the shoe that the larger volume Momentous can handle without making the shoe tight.

Purchased this shoe after owning several pairs of Merrell hiking shoes. They fit predictably and are excellent for trail running.

So comfortable! - by , Jun 20, 2019

I have had many Merrell shoes - mostly hikers - over the years. These are my favorite of all because of how comfortable they are. I also love that the tongue is attached on one side. These are good looking shoes (I got the ones with blue trim) I love these shoes!

A very poor running shoe - by , Jun 10, 2019
1/ 5 Stars
I have been a longstanding Merrell fan, but when things are done poorly, something should be said about it also. I run trails, twenty to thirty miles a week, often times with more than 3.000 feet of elevation gain on each session. The immediate thought I had when I put the shoes on was: “How much time did they spend conceiving this product in the lab? Five minutes? Or perhaps ten?” The main reason was: the shoe seal around the ankle rubs everywhere it shouldn’t! The contour of the shoe digs into the bottom of the external malleolus. The burrito tongue digs into the joint when the ankle flexes. Just unbelievable! By the way, I was a big fan of the now-bygone Merrell All Out Charge, which also had a burrito tongue, but none of the above shortcomings were to be observed. The lateral space for the toes felt right. But there is way too much room ABOVE the forefoot! The result is: the forefoot doesn’t feel held tightly and securely enough. Last but not least: where is the arch support gone? The Trail Glove has had it. The All Out Charge used to have it. Is arch support no longer relevant? Anyways, if you are looking for a shoe for “everyday use”, which has enough room to do Pilates with your toes while you’re working at the computer in the office, go for the Momentous. If you run trails, want no blisters under your malleolus and want a shoe that offers support for serious runs, call Merrell and ask them to recommend a shoe which they actually asked runners to test before putting it on the market.

OK Shoe - by , May 21, 2019
3/ 5 Stars
Just an okay shoe with some good points and bad ones. The good is that it's big enough for a normal foot. Athletic shoemakers seem to be saving on materials by making shoes small without volume. Another good point is that the sole is aggressive and hopefully will give good traction on all surfaces. So far so good. Unfortunately paire with that aggressive sole Merrell uses US Keds type shoelaces. You will need to replace these, I did. Another bad is that the shoe is not supportive enough for 10-15 mile walks/runs unless you are a light weight. Actually, the shoe feels kind of worn out from the start. Something is missing. I also use the Moab 2 for hiking. I give that shoe a much higher grade though it is much heavier.

Too large - by , May 11, 2019
2/ 5 Stars
This shoe is too large for my 7.5 feet. I have small ankles as well and the way the shoe laces up and the way the tongue is semi-attached to the rest of the shoe makes it too loose around the top of my foot. I could slide my foot out of the shoe with the laces fully tightened. I know you are to avoid writing about customer service, but people should know that it has taken a long time to get my money back after returning the shoes. It's been more than two weeks. The shoe has decent styling and the foot-fall feels good. It is quite lightweight. It is advertised as "built for running on moderate trails," and I would tend to agree with that. I wouldn't do a lot of actual hiking with them.

Why is the toe box narrower than others? - by , Mar 27, 2019
4/ 5 Stars
A previous reviewer commented on this, and it seemed like a good opportunity to explain. The toe box appears to be shaped more like that of a dress shoe, much narrower than most of your other trail shoes. Is this not unnaturally pushing the toes together? Otherwise I'd love this shoe...not much heal to toe drop, a plate but still not too, too heavy.

Solid shoe with pitfalls - by , Mar 21, 2019
2/ 5 Stars
Great that Merrell made a more solid substantial trail running shoe. Problem is that it still lacks a little depth, room for the foot, and the shoelaces are quite thin for a trail running shoe. I don't think you could find thinner more sparce laces. They just don't work with the shoe. Have not taken them out for a test walk yet, but if I do I will own them and I don't think I'm ready for that. Will send them back.
