Light, feels awesome and great traction. I would suggest using traditional MOAB color schemes. Why change what works.

Heel has build/design issues, but remainder of show seems good - by , Jul 08, 2019
2/ 5 Stars
Bought these new and took on a 5 mile hike that day. The Heal seam where the two different fabrics come together has a shelf or reinforcement behind the seam that is pronounced creating a ledge in the back of the shoe, Needless to say after 2.5 miles I was on the trail side putting moleskin on both heels. I hike this distance/trail regularly. Was wearing wool socks. These Shoes left big blisters on the Both heals. Bad Design/Build Quality. Took them back to the store They pulled out another brand new pair to compare, and they had the same issue. Returned them for a store credit unfortunately as they wouldn't issue a refund, so now I have to spend that amount with them instead of getting a pair of shoes that won't destroy my feet like these did.

MOAB FST-2: Good shoe but narrow toe box. - by , Jul 01, 2019
3/ 5 Stars
This shoe is the size I normally wear (11M). The toe box is too narrow in this FST2. Also the laces are too short to tie in an adequate, stable knot. My older pair of this model Merrell shoe is still going strong but starting to show it's age of 2+ yrs of regular daily use. It's my go-to-shoe for just about everything. Love the Vibram soles. Always liked Merrell hiking shoes but this recent purchase was very disappointing.

Good for hikes that aren't very rocky - by , Jun 30, 2019

I have used the Moab Ventilators for several years because they fit me well with the addition of Superfeet Green insoles. However, I never loved how they looked. I think the FST 2 looks better, so decided to try it and see if the fit is similar. It is, and I decided to keep them. One unexpected problem: the top lace eyelets are too close to the top of the tongue, so pretty much every time I put the shoes on, the loose laces have moved around the top of the tongue, and I have to move them back while tightening them. Pretty inconvenient. I fixed it for casual wear by unlacing the top metal eyelets, but this isn't a great solution, as the laces are now affecting the less durable top fabric loops at a sharper angle, which I expect will cause faster wear. It reduces stability, and doesn't look quite as good. I've never had this much trouble with such a problem with any other shoes. I think it could be fixed by moving the lacing system down a little. The black/granite color I chose shows dirt more than the other colors would. Same as the Moab Ventilator, the soles are fairly soft, so even new, these shoes are not suitable for walking on a lot of sharp rocks or doing any scrambling that requires standing on small edges. However, the softer sole is more comfortable for casual walking and hiking. They are quite breathable, perhaps more than the Moab Ventilator. I don't experience excessive sweat buildup, and I can feel breezes hitting my feet inside the shoes. The included insoles are somewhat more supportive than the usual worthless floppy ones that come with shoes. I haven't had to buy after-market insoles yet, though I probably would if I was going to be walking or standing in them for a long time. Overall, I'd say they are an improvement on the Moab Ventilator, with the exception of the lacing problem. If that is corrected, I may buy another pair.

Shoes look great but ran a little smaller than what my other Merrells have in the past. Will have to return and get once size larger...

I have various issues with my feet, sore heals and sore arches. This shoe has helped eliminate that pain compared to wearing a regular shoe. Definitely worth buying if you are experiencing foot issues or walking on a concrete floor all day.

My old pair of Moabs finally bit it after 6 hard years on them and many miles. They lasted a long time. I needed a new pair of mid-hikers and wanted to try something with a bit more ventilation and lighter. These fit the bill and are immensely comfortable right out of the box. Very little break in time if any. I highly recommend them. I look forward to enjoying these for years to come on the trails.

The Moab FST was very narrow - by , Apr 22, 2019

I really liked the material and construction of the FST 2 but pretty much knew they were going to be too narrow when I took them out of the box. I have two other Merrell shoes; one is a 10.0 and the other a 10.5. Wish the FST came in a wide.
