They are NOT waterproof - by , May 27, 2020
2/ 5 Stars
Moved to Mid-West and need water proof shoe to walk my dog in. These are NOT waterproof. Took him to the dog park on the weekend. Walked thru tall wet grass and my socks were soaked. NOT water proof. Also the quality of the loop holding the shoe string is poor. Mine broke after only being 4 months old. I reached out to Merrill via website. No response. Don't buy these if you want dry feet.

Loved how wide these shoes are, I finally can hike with no toe pinches! However they are definitely not waterproof. I stepped in some shallow puddles and my feet were immediately soaked. Really disappointing considering the "waterproof" sales pitch is one if the main reasons I opted to spring for these shoes.

Comfortable Hiking Boot - by , Feb 23, 2020
4/ 5 Stars
I have only worn these shoes for about 2 weeks, so I can't speak to their durability and will mainly be reviewing their fit, feel, and appearance. I went to stores to try on as many different brands of shoes as I could in person to see how well each one would fit. I found out that I have a normal-sized toe box with a narrow heel, which made finding a shoe that fit me right surprisingly difficult. I tried on the Moab II WP Mid hiking boot and found that they fit me perfectly! I wear size 9.5W in regular walking shoes and found that the boots in this size were way too tight for my feet, so a size 10W worked great. I chose to order the GORE-TEX version of the same model since I live in a very wet and snowy climate and would love to walk through the snow with them in the winter. FIT: When the shoes arrived, I found that one fit perfectly and that the other slid around somewhat near my heel. I'm assuming this is just because I have two differently-sized feet and that there isn't an error in how the other shoe was made. FEEL: I find that tying one shoe normally and the other extra tight seems to prevent my heel from sliding. However, the tongues will very quickly work there way loose from inside the rest of the shoe, causing me to need to retighten them about once per walk. I also find that dirt and small rubble enters the shoes very quickly, even though I almost exclusively walk with them on dry pavement. So far, I have walked with them in the snow and over top of puddles a few times, and no water has managed to work its way into the shoes. Additionally, these shoes seem to be versatile for wearing in different temperatures. On colder days (anywhere from 0 to -30F here), they feel very warm and comfortable with a pair of thick socks. On warmer days (so far only tested around 40F, they don't feel too hot or too cold wearing normal-thickness crew neck socks. APPEARANCE: I ordered the color "Brindle" online and found that the brown colors of the shoe appeared darker than the images being shown while the blue accents appeared more saturated. This was a fine difference for me. I do hope that in the future they can extend the color palettes of their shoes to include neutral versions without accenting colors because I enjoy wearing these on a day-to-day basis and would love the ease of matching them to my black and brown outfits.

NOT WATERPROOF - by , Feb 15, 2020

I love these shoes but they are not waterproof. I went to paragon I and they got completely soaked in likfht rain and wet grass. All of merrell shoes are excellent except for the fact that they’re not water proof. They advertise them as such but aren’t. please make some cute shoes like you have in men’s that are waterproof. Why do womens hiking boots have to look so awful and the colors. Not all of us like dark brown yuck.

Different from previous versions of same style - by , Dec 10, 2019

The Moab2 has always fit me perfectly. This version is longer and narrower across the toe. I have the same boot to compare it with from a year ago, and it's definitely longer and narrower. I can wear it but it is not comfortable the way previous versions were.

The shoes are lightweight and give excellent support. I'd order up a half-size as they seem a bit short.

Comfortable but won’t last the season - by , Jul 25, 2019
2/ 5 Stars
I work in field ecology and got these to replace another brand of boots that had lasted me well over three field seasons, as well as multiple backpacking and hiking trips. They are comfortable and were initially waterproof, though that didn’t last very long. Within a month of getting these boots - in which they were used five days a week for low-impact work - I could see that the coating on the fabric was flaking, exposing the fibers. I continued using them because waterproof-ness isn’t the end all be all for me but after less than a continuous year of seasonal work, each boot has become detached from their sole. Big bummer.

Comfortable and Functional - by , Jul 09, 2019

I purchased this item for my wife before our trip to Iceland. She wanted to have a hiking shoe that is sturdy, durable, and waterproof. I recommended that she try the Moab 2 Mid Gore Tex, based on my own favorable experience with this style. In short, she loves them! Her comments: excellent fit, good support, and kept her feet dry. And no break-in time, i.e. comfortable from the first use.
