I got my first pair of Merrells in 2009 and were/are the best boots I've ever had. They were the Outland Mids. I eventually got another similar pair 5 years later, they weren't as good but I liked them. Finally figured I would spend a bit more as I am an avid hiker and they are terrible- the Moab Mid 2 gore-tex. They fit so loose and wide and the insoles are HORRIBLE compared to my original pair which I finally did a side by side test with this past weekend. I had planned to wear these on a big hike I'm about to do which is a month long but now I am scrambling last minute with whether to give merrell and other shot or try something else. Sadly, merrell isn't merrell anymore, they're the big Wolverine conglomerate. RIP merrell

These shoes stink... literally.... - by , Mar 12, 2018

I am a long time returning Merrrell customer. I recently bought my second pair of MOAB 2 MID GORE-TEX®. The shoes had a very strong chemical smell when I opened the box. I decided to let them air out for a day but my entire house smelled like the shoes within hours. Had to leave them in the garage because I was concerned for my family's health. Wore them the next day and the smell began to rub off on my clothes. Decided to rebox them and reach out to Merrell. They were so concerned that they didn't respond to me at all. Usually buy two pair at a time. I will be returning both and switching to another shoe company. Very disappointed customer.

boot fits well but IS NOT WATERPROOF - by , Apr 22, 2018

Boots fit well, are of average comfort on the trail. Bought the boots for a couple of photo assignments in Africa. Wore them less than six months and they are leaking like a sieve. Very little waterproof protection after three months. Now six months in I might as well not being wearing a boot. Just walking through grass with a heavy dew gets my socks soaking wet.

Sizing and sole may be bad, maybe i got a bad set. - by , Jun 25, 2018
1/ 5 Stars
Took them out on a three day scouting trip. Bought them with true to size in mind and by the time they broke in after 8 plus hours of rucking, with a 50 pound pack and me weighing 170, my feet were swimming. Tried tightening to compensate and no solution found there. Hotspots and blisters came after the end of the first day unfortunately. Try these on in store and keep in mind the stretch out. Also on the Vibram sole I have bits missing. Something on the terrain was the culprit for these pieces taken out and they aren't exactly huge chunks but over the course of a dozen or so trips, this will definitely be problematic. The shoes have the potential to be great, unfortunately my experience with them was not. Maybe I got a bad batch. Who knows.

Very, very HOT! - by , Aug 25, 2018
1/ 5 Stars
Purchased the gore-tex boots after being told by Merrel that only gore-tex offfer true water proofing. That may be so, but the complete lack of ventilation make the boots extremely hot. I wore them during a 2 week warm weather trip that included several moderate hikes. My feet got so hot that I ended up wearing the boots untied all the time except when the terrain required tying them. I purchased this shoe because my 10 year old Merrells finally met their faith. Those were the best shoes I've worn. Not sure what changed, but these are no good.

Inconsistent Sizing - by , Jun 07, 2019

A couple months ago i purchased a pair of shoes at 9 M. I had to return them because they were too small. I exchanged them for a 9.5M that fit perfectly. A couple weeks ago i purchased another pair of shoes similar but different color. I ordered a 9.5 M. When i received them they were way too big. I placed the new shoe bottom to the old shoe that was also 9.5 M and the new 9.5 M shoe was almost and inch larger. Now i have returned the latest shoe for a size 9 M hoping they will fit. Something has to be done about the size differential in your shoes.

Very disappointed in this product! - by , Jul 11, 2017

I bought this hiking boot because I wanted a waterproof solution. I owned a pair of Moab Ventilators that were absolutely awesome so I expected the Moab 2 to be even better. This was not the case. Ordered a size 10 since that was the size of all my other Merrell boots and shoes. I got them in early May and left on Vacation. I didn't have a chance to try them till I got back on July 6th. I took them on a 6 mile hike up to Bishops Peek and back in San Luis Obispo. By the time I was on the way back My feet were just crushed in the toe box and it was causing quite a bit of pain. I couldn't wait to get them off. These boots were designed differently. The toe box was a lot smaller and the overall width seemed narrower. These boots were just awful. I called Merrell and they told me I could exchange them online. When I tried it said the window for returns or exchanges had expired (45 day policy). I am now stuck with a $160.00 dollar pair of worthless boots. Not real happy about this since I wanted to exchange them for a 1/2 size bigger and see if that would take care of the sizing problem but nogo. I am not about to spend another $160.00 on this. As loyal as I have been to Merrell I think it may be time to move on.

Far hotter than its predecessors. - by , Aug 23, 2017

I have previously owned two waterproof boots so I am used to them being warmer than your usual boots. I have been hiking all around the world and been fine. I am planning to go this year for the Camino de Santiago on a particularly wet month and on a path that will take me through some water crossing. I was excited to rock out my new Merrell boots but I can't take this pair. I toes felt like they were burning up like never before. I simply can not imagine a month of walking in these boots without serious damage to my feet. I wore them on two trail hikes, a 30 minutes and a 60 minutes. They were under fair weather so I can attest for the waterproofing, but I am sure it is top notch. My experience, except for this one, is that Merrell is the best out there. I don't think I'll wear them ever again, and now I am stuck with a $150 purchase, and won't be able to afford a new pair before I leave. Overall, I don't recommend these boots due to the extreme heat over its predecessors. I should have followed my impulse and gotten the Ventilators, and dealt with wet feet. Now my wife won't let go the fact that I spent this much money and boots that I won't use.
