Great hiking boot, but.. - by , Sep 27, 2017
3/ 5 Stars
I love Merrell boots!! I have a couple of pairs of the Moab Peak that I have punished over the last three or four years and they are still in my weekly boot rotation! I wear them every day for work and for hiking trips on the Appalachian Trail in North Georgia and I haven't one single complaint. Comfort, fit, waterproofing and durability have been top notch! The Moab Peak model waterproof boot was not available this past Christmas season, so I decided to put this model on my Christmas list. This model is a little lighter in weight than the Moab Peak and extremely comfortable right out of the box as I tried them immediately on a couple of 5 and 6 mile day trips after receiving them as a gift. The Vibram soles are fantastic! I purchased a thick pair of insoles from Merrell as I am a pretty big guy and appreciate the extra padding in my boots. Waterpoof test of the Gore-Tex was a success as well as with the breathability of the boot. I always wear sock liners and a wool hiking sock and my feet are comfortable and dry through the last winter and through this summer as well. I love these as a lighter weight option from my Peaks and have been really happy to have them for that option. My only complaint with this boot is that three months ago, the Vibram sole started sqeeking loudly when walking from the inner arch of my right boot where it attaches to the upper. Its not failing but the guys at work are now calling me "Squeeky"! It gets annoying on hikes as well. The left boot doesn't have that problem, nor have any other of my Merrell boots. They were a gift and well out of warranty window (no idea where they were purchased) so I still wear them. Not a huge complaint! Still a loyal Merrell customer and love the fit and comfort these boots provide. Just that one minor annoyance!

Far hotter than its predecessors. - by , Aug 23, 2017

I have previously owned two waterproof boots so I am used to them being warmer than your usual boots. I have been hiking all around the world and been fine. I am planning to go this year for the Camino de Santiago on a particularly wet month and on a path that will take me through some water crossing. I was excited to rock out my new Merrell boots but I can't take this pair. I toes felt like they were burning up like never before. I simply can not imagine a month of walking in these boots without serious damage to my feet. I wore them on two trail hikes, a 30 minutes and a 60 minutes. They were under fair weather so I can attest for the waterproofing, but I am sure it is top notch. My experience, except for this one, is that Merrell is the best out there. I don't think I'll wear them ever again, and now I am stuck with a $150 purchase, and won't be able to afford a new pair before I leave. Overall, I don't recommend these boots due to the extreme heat over its predecessors. I should have followed my impulse and gotten the Ventilators, and dealt with wet feet. Now my wife won't let go the fact that I spent this much money and boots that I won't use.

I bought this hiking boot because I wanted a waterproof solution. I owned a pair of Moab Ventilators that were absolutely awesome so I expected the Moab 2 to be even better. This was not the case. Ordered a size 10 since that was the size of all my other Merrell boots and shoes. I got them in early May and left on Vacation. I didn't have a chance to try them till I got back on July 6th. I took them on a 6 mile hike up to Bishops Peek and back in San Luis Obispo. By the time I was on the way back My feet were just crushed in the toe box and it was causing quite a bit of pain. I couldn't wait to get them off. These boots were designed differently. The toe box was a lot smaller and the overall width seemed narrower. These boots were just awful. I called Merrell and they told me I could exchange them online. When I tried it said the window for returns or exchanges had expired (45 day policy). I am now stuck with a $160.00 dollar pair of worthless boots. Not real happy about this since I wanted to exchange them for a 1/2 size bigger and see if that would take care of the sizing problem but nogo. I am not about to spend another $160.00 on this. As loyal as I have been to Merrell I think it may be time to move on.

Comfortable shoes, good for day hiking. - by , Jun 14, 2017
5/ 5 Stars
I've only had the shoes a short time and gone on a few hikes. The shoes were comfortable out of the box and became more so with use. On hikes of a few hours duration, my feet stayed comfortable and didn't over heat. traction was good although not seriously challenged yet. The ground was dry so I can'y comment on their waterproof qualities. I ordered a half a size larger than I normally do for other shoes based on comments by others and the fit was perfect.

Very pleased with the boots that just arrived promptly from Merrell for my teenaged son to use hiking this summer. The fit is excellent and the boots are comfortable with no need to break in. Looking forward to seeing how they do on the trail.

My son requested these to replace an identical pair that he had worn out over the years. He immediately wore the new boots on a weeklong hiking and camping trip, with no breaking in.

My kids laugh when I use this expression, but when something is this good there is no other word. They are the lightest boots on the market and very comfortable.

These Moab2s are my favorite hiking boots. The fit is great and they are comfortable right out of the box. The Gortex lining keeps your feed dry and the Vibram soles have excellent traction. I would recommend these boots to anyone looking for a great affordable pair!
