I have a pair of tall Merrell Captiva boots that I've been wearing for years and I love them so much, they're great for getting me around campus in the rain, snow, and slush, and they look nice enough for work. I was hoping these boots would be a replacement because mine are getting worn down, but no. I like the fact that these boots have no heel, since I need boots I can really walk in, but other than that, I hated them. The calf opening is huge, as others have noted, and the height of these boots is weird, they only come up to about mid-calf instead of higher on the calf. I probably would have kept them if it weren't for the oddly wide opening, but they looked and felt weird. They are also very blah looking, there's just nothing cute about these boots. Bring back the Captiva tall please!

Great boots if you have ankle problems

This is my third pair of Merrell's, which I specifically bought because my ankles are weak and need all the support they can get. Have 3 different heights and they are great!

Worst merrell boot

I have loved Merrells for several years through many boots and sneakers and when the zipper went out on my black boots (Captivas ftw) i immediately went to Merrell. These boots don't fit like any other Merrell I've tried. The boot shaft is baggy, they have less insulation and, my ankle slips up and down and they overall just don't look attractive. Because I love Merrells, I've kept them thinking that I woul get used to them, the more I wear them the less I like them. My zipper went out on my brown boots (Travvy) yesterday and I don't know what I'll do because apparently Merrell boots are bo longer the perfect boot for me.

As a huge fan of the three different pairs of Captiva I am still wearing to death ( please bring them back so I can stop hunting for them on eBay!), I reluctantly tried a pair of these since Zappos had them and I happened to be shopping there. The flat and wonderfully bouncy outsole is the old familiar favorite, but I could literally fit both legs into the boot shaft. Not only do they end on my calf in a strange and unflattering place (at 5'9" I'm not particularly tall), but they are very stiff. It's confusing because they aren't insulated enough to be snow boots, but the boot shaft seems designed to accommodate five pairs of snow pants. I recall buyers complaining about Captivas being baggy, but this is just excessive because I am far from skinny. I think this is the first time I've ever said "Oh, HELL NO!" out loud at a pair of Merrells.

Good boot but......

I agree with previous reviewer- bring back the Captivas! These are excellent alternatives but I miss the extra detail of the captiva as these are just sort of blah. They seem to lack some of the insulation of the captivas as well. I wore them in snow and my feet were frozen. I also slipped and skidded around a bit so traction is lacking in these boots. But they are totally waterproof and great for walking distances and so comfortable. The calf opening is a bit bigger which I’m still deciding if I like. Overall great boot, but I really miss those captivas!!
