Excellent boot for snow and icy conditions. - by , Feb 27, 2019

Best snow/ice boot I have owned. The Vibram Arctic Grip sole material and tread pattern work very well in both snow and icy conditions. The boot is also very warm and waterproof. I own several pairs of Merrell boots for various uses, but these are the best for winter conditions. Highly recommend them.

Design flaw confirmed. - by , Feb 19, 2019

This shoe fit great and was very comfortable, but had the designs defect that others have mentioned. The metal plate that that holds the eyelets at the top of the shoe rubs against the top of the heel. I could tell it was an issue with a couple minutes of wearing them.

Out of box comfort with great traction. - by , Jan 26, 2019

These replaced an older Ice+ boot that I loved and was hesitant to replace. This boot is much lighter than older versions, and I was able to wear them all day at work without a break-in period. I am a letter carrier and walk between 9 and 10 miles a day. At no point have I had to switch back to my old boots due to comfort reasons. They are awesome for the variable ice/snow/rain conditions you experience walking in an urban area during the winter. I would highly recommend these boots. I wish I had bitten the bullet and bought them sooner.

fit small with painful defect - by , Jan 23, 2019

I have a size 11-1/2 narrow foot, and the size 12 boot fits well. The Vibram Arctic Grip soles work well on ice. These boots are great except for one significant design or manufacturing defect: the internal stitching along the inside edges of the tongues creates hard lumps that rubbed painfully against my ankles. I could feel the pressure points the moment I laced them up and couldn't wear the boots for more than a couple of hours without pain. I was going to return them but thought I would try to fix them first. I clamped Vice Grip pliers over the offending lumps using a couple layers of paper towel to protect the leather and left them clamped overnight to see if I could crush the lumps flat. It took two tries for each boot over four nights, but it worked and they are now as comfortable as my other Merrell boots that don't have lumps in their tongues. A little more testing or better quality control would go a long way in improving these boots. I would also suggest that the top pair of grommets on each boot be replaced with hooks, as it's more difficult than it should be to lace them with the top two pairs of grommets so close together.

Something is missing..... - by , Dec 14, 2018

My only gripe so far (I've only worn them a few times) is there is no loop on the back of the boot to make it easier to put on. All my other Merrell's have this loop, so what gives?? I don't see a large expense to have this feature.

PROS: Comfortable from day one. Required no break in period. Good support. Excellent traction in snow and on icy rocks. CONS: Laces are a bit close together and present a problem when wearing gloves. Speed hooks would be better instead of the top eyelets. NOT suitable for very cold conditions. It was -11F in Wyoming and these boots were not adequate, even with heavy socks. They were fine in "normal cold" conditions, 20-32F.

Comfortable but not for ice - by , Jun 17, 2018

First the good news: the boot is very comfortable, needs very little breaking-in time and is warm (too warm for summer use). The ice Vibram sole is great and flexible under dry and wet conditions, and grips admirably under those conditions. The bad news: (and this is a deal breaker) . . . the sole will NOT grip on ice. In fact, you will slip and fall if you think they will hold, so the sole - tested in an Oslo winter (and 2018 was a cold one) - will never work for the purpose they are intended; you need studded soles or crampons for ice. Period. Also, as one other person mentioned the laces don't hold and need to constantly retied.
