Gear

So you’ve been working all week and the only thing helping time go by is the fact that you’re trail running this weekend. Forgetting trail running necessities happens more than you think. Been there, done that & nothing fun about it. Don’t ruin the well awaited adventure. Go trail running, and get lost (in your thoughts hopefully not the trails). NOTHING screams bad ass and adventure more than a deep trip into the wilderness.

But most importantly…. don’t forget to do a gear check before you leave. Here’s my checklist of 10 things needed for the trail.

1. SOCKS MATTER

Socks AKA the worst Christmas present ever. UNLESS…. You’re a trail junkie. To prevent the blisters and calluses from running, it is imperative to wear proper socks that stay true to your outdoor spirit. All Out Nanoglides will give you breathable performance and keep your feet happy on the trail. Bring an extra pair! Worried you might get a little chilly on your run? No problem! The extra sock pair can double as mittens.

2. HEADLAMP FOR CHAMPS

Yeah, if you’re in public and wear a headlamp people might look at you weird wondering why there is a glowing lantern coming from your forehead, however, on the trails no one would even think twice. Try out the Black Diamond Icon Headlamp and say yes to that all-day AND night running adventure… Because you can.

3. SAVE IT FOR GAITER

Wouldn’t life be perfect if you could just trail run peacefully into nature’s glory without anything getting in the way? Well, unfortunately that isn’t always the case. Wearing a Gaiter will keep the debris from getting in and creating blisters & irritation that might possibly slow you down from your run. Put that bad boy on, it’s better safe than sorry!

4. Totally Tubular

This Merrell Tubular will be the answer to all of your running problems. Cold and need a hat or scarf? Done. Need a way to keep the hair out of your face? Done. Need a face mask to shield you from the annoying bugs? Done. HECK, if you’re feeling a little risky and need to shed a layer or two, it could serve a stylish orange crop top. Want to unleash your inner pirate on the trial because why not? This buff makes it possible with a simple adjustment. You’re welcome.

8. PACK-A-SNACK

Don’t run out of energy, bring the energy. Bring food for that extra fuel to keep you going! Make sure that is portable, easy to eat, lightweight with carbs and protein to help you powerhouse through the trails. Stellar options include energy bars, pretzels, fruits, trail mix, and nuts. Bring nuts before you go nuts, life motto.

9. BRING A FRIEND

Whether it be your high school best friend you want to catch up with, the person you have a “thing” with (whatever that means), your dog, or even a complete stranger (I suggest doing a background check prior), do it! Forget about your phone and share your experience with someone over the social web. Set a goal and hold each other accountable!

10. GPS WATCH

The Forerunner 225 has features that shows your pace, heart rate, distance and location. This super trendy watch is also an activity tracker. You get the best of both worlds, sounds like a winning situation to me.
