For Momentum Adventure, exploring is in their DNA and they’ve been putting the MOAB FST GORE-TEX® through it’s paces in the depths of the Scottish Highlands.

Momentum was born for those who want to “do something different” and we have spent the last decade guiding travellers and scouring the planet for the most jaw-dropping locations, incredible guides and remote hideaways, with the sole purpose of designing the most inspiring adventures of the highest quality that the world has to offer. We believe you should never stop experiencing, no matter what your age and having the right kit to do this has never been more important.

So after being given some very tasty looking Merrells – the MOAB FST GORE-TEX® shoe – myself and the team are off on a recce and are going to mercilessly thrash them in the winter wilderness.

Our location is the depths of the Scottish Highlands in January! A tough, beautiful and often brutal time to visit the Highlands, but a time of year I truly love. Wild winds, big waves, rain and good times. Always followed by an obligatory dram of Whisky and a roaring fire.

Over the years I have tested, been given and thrashed numerous bits of adventure kit. From shoes, rucksacks, stoves you name it. The team and I give our kit an honest workout, in the environments, they were born to work in.

I don’t subscribe to the fact that adventurous clothing has to look boring to work well, far from it. From climbing harnesses, Gore-Tex jackets, even tents. In today’s market kit doesn’t just look good, it performs amazingly well in a wide range of environments.

When our Moab FST’s arrive, my first thought was, fantastic, they’re in the Momentum orange! The design also looked great and I was looking forward to trying out some of it’s key features, like the Gore-Tex membrane and Vibram® MegaGrip.

Myself and the team, consisting of British Special Forces and mountain guides, headed out into the wilds of the Scottish wilderness. Forests, lashing rain, peat bogs and finally remote wild beaches. I have to say, hand on heart, these shoes performed really well. My feet stayed dry and warm despite sea water, puddles, and hot ash from our fire, they just kept going. The fact that they were so lightweight and feature the Vibram sole also meant that they were really flexible to the different terrains that we were covering and offered brilliant grip.

At the end of the trip I asked the team their thoughts, all of them agreed that they were something special. High praise indeed from guides who have spent decades in the wilderness. Merrell, I have to say a job well done – a great design with impeccable performance… A well-earned Momentum thumbs up!
