This boot had potential. Being waterproof was great, never got wet feet. Gripped better on ice than your typical boot. And loved being able to just zip up. But there is absolutely NO ankle support, so if you wear this for longer than half hour, you will have really sore, raw ankles. And after wearing 2-3 days a week for 2 months mine are falling apart. They are unwearable now. Didn't even make it through one winter. The inside heels are totally shredded and the zipper pull broke. A totally waste of over $200. Disappointed to say the least. Couldn't even return because the store I bought them from closed.

I REALLY wanted to love these boots..... - by , Feb 09, 2019
3/ 5 Stars
I really wanted to love these boots. They have good style, I was excited about the Vibram soles, and Merrell makes a good product. I needed some solid winter boots with good traction and support. I have been wearing them since November (it's February now) and have increasingly become disappointed with them. I wear them almost daily for regular activities- walking my dog, going to the store, shoveling snow, simple hikes in the snow. - The soles have a good traction pattern, but I felt that the Arctic Grip texture wore off within a week of use and I feel that the traction isn't any better than any other winter boot sole. - The ankle support area becomes increasingly loose and folds over itself. I think it is the way the zipper feature is designed. It would probably retain shape in the ankle area better if the zipper was down the back of the calf, and not down the inside past the ankle. - The design has too many seams, when I wear them I can feel cold leaking through the different seams in the lower part of the boot. As long as I am walking my feet stay mostly warm, but once I stop they become cold quickly. I live in northern WA, so it's pretty cold here, but I was hoping these boots would hold up to the challenge. - The tongue design is not pleated and connected to the inside of the boot for the full length of the boot, but is instead a separate tongue piece starting in the ankle area. Unfortunately, this has allowed cold and snow to seep in through the front of the boot and get into my socks when I am in deeper snow. - The eyelets at the top of the boot don't hold the laces in place. As I wear the boot and the boot shifts and moves with my walking, the laces become loose and fall from the eyelets at the top of the boot. This results in me having to stop frequently and retie my laces; and trust me, I am lacing them up snugly! This is probably the most frustrating thing about them for me because I have to stop and take of my gloves and it's cold! - One plus about them though is that my socks don't fall down my feet as I wear them, an issue I have had with other boots in the past! I am disappointed because I hoped that these would be a good investment for several seasons of use, but I will need to find something different for next season. :-(

Too wide for narrow feet. - by , Feb 08, 2019
3/ 5 Stars
I've had my eye on these boots for months, waiting for them to go on sale. I finally purchased them and they arrived yesterday. I ordered the same size as all of my other Merrell boots and shoes, however, these boots are so wide, that I was unable to pull the laces tight enough to hug my feet. If most Merrell boots are too narrow for you, try these. I was disappointed. I even removed the stock insole and tried them with my own insoles and still no joy. They're just way too wide for my narrow feet.

Boots keep you warm in the cold, but did not sweat once off the bikes...which is a wonderful thing!

This product does not live up to the hype around traction on ice - by , Jan 21, 2019

I paid more for this pair of boots than I have ever paid for a pair of boots in my life. I walk my dog 2.5 km every morning before I go to work and I live in an area where we go through many freeze/thaw cycles all winter as well as snowfalls that can be significant. The boot is great for a heavy snowfall due to the height of the boot; but, it falls short on ice. In fact, as far as I have experienced, it has no better slip control on ice than any other shoe. I have been walking on shoveled sidewalks, un-shoveled sidewalks, roads, paved walking trails, and unpaved trails. If there is any ice on these surfaces, I slide. I am very disappointed in this product.

Fantastic traction on ice- better than my ice cleats! - by , Jan 20, 2019
5/ 5 Stars
I bought these initially because nobody in the Brooklyn neighborhood where I work has ever considered shoveling a sidewalk and the brief walk from the train to work is nothing short of deadly on a snowy day. I live in Peekskill, though, and today gave me opportunity to really test out this traction stuff Merrell has going on. We had an inch or two of snow followed by about ten hours of rain and freezing rain by the time we got out to shovel our driveway. It’s about 200 feet long, top to bottom, with a 20+% grade in some areas. I don’t like walking down it on a dry day because it’s so steep. My poor husband wore ice cleats and was slipping all over the place. I wore my Auroras and felt safe and stable the whole time. Was it slippery? Absolutely. Was I extra careful on the steepest parts? You bet. But these boots have changed my attitude about being outside, and my 50 year old bones are grateful they’re all still intact and where they should be. Through all the standing water and slush, my feet stayed warm and dry. I shoveled for two hours and the boots never felt heavy or uncomfortable. These boots are great!

J'aime bien les bottes, les cordons ont tendances a débarqués de leur crochets mais a part cela elles sont parfaites. Elles sont chaudes, légères et la semelle a une très bonne traction sur la glace et la neige.

great fit and warm - by , Dec 26, 2018

I bought these boots in all black and love the way they look! they fit well, snug, but comfortable. I normally wear a 9 or 9 1/2 shoe, so ordered the larger size to wear with thicker socks if needed. they also have a zipper which helps with the fit, i think. I have not had to wear them in deeper snow yet, but expect them to do their job.

Needs better fit - by , Dec 22, 2018

I bought these boots online and so didn't get a chance to try them on ahead of time. I returned the first pair because they were too big, the second pair fits better, but I still could have gone down a half size, so I wonder if this is the problem. The right boot bends just above my ankle and pushes my leg at that point which is annoying when out walking for any distance. I bought them for the no-slip vibram sole which I haven't had a chance to test yet. They are warm and I like them otherwise. Because I have worn these outside I don't think I can return them now, but if I had tried them in a store I probably wouldn't have bought them. They are too expensive for their quality and not what I expected of Merrell boots.

They came early! Which was convenient we got 18 inches of snow. They kept my feet warm ALL DAY LONG. I was in the deep snow all day. Not once did my feet get cold, they grip very well.
