Another wrong design direction... This is great example of wasting the true strengths of the barefoot line, going in absolutely the wrong direction. The barefoot line is great and original because of the ultra-lightweight 6 OZ design, the ultra-thin Vibram sole with minimalist stack height (6.5/6.5mm on the best designs, like the Men's Vapor Glove 3. By contrast the Bare Access line is growing fat, ballooning into something that looks like any other thick-soled running shoe. IT is a real shame because Merrell was on the road to perfection when they introduced the Barefoot Embark Glove Gore-Tex Shoes, and the earlier True Glove, and the faux leather Tough Glove, and the charcoal black Trail Glove 3. Combine the key design elements of all these shoes and you would have something really unique, let's call it the "Barefoot Anywhere." What's that? A barefoot design shoe that you could wear anywhere, in any conditions, for any purpose, and could take anywhere. Let's break the design concept down: First the basic barefoot design of the "glove" line gives you a shoe you can use for hiking, running, sports, walking. AND very importantly, since they are so lightweight and flexible they are WAY easier to pack when traveling than any other shoe. The Barefoot Gore-Tex line added the versatility of waterproofing, creating a shoe you can use rain or shine, even in the snow if you need to, and still keep your feet mostly dry. The faux leather Tough Glove offer a sophisticated but simple design you would wear almost anywhere, on the trail or at work, hiking a mountain range or walking the streets of a foreign capital. So combine all those elements in one shoe, and Merrell would create the Barefoot Anywhere, a could you could take ANYWHERE in the world, and use in any weather, for almost any purpose, whether sports, social, cultural or professional. But instead of developing and combining the strengths of all these design elements into a truly versatile and unique shoe that actually could be anything and everything for everyone (like the iPhone) they have abandoned nearly all of these great design elements in the current line. With the respect to the aobve product, well, they have settled for making another nice trail running shoe. Yay. But they are operating way under the true potential for this line of shoes.
