Lucky enough to receive a pair of Trail Gloves before the release date. Couldn't be happier with this shoe. For someone wanting to do the minimal thing, this is one of the best options out there. Extremely light weight and flexible with no midsole. Little extra outsole on the forefoot gives just enough protection on trails, gravel, and anything else you may encounter. It does fit a little long as well as wide in the toe box, but the lacing system lets you snug it up well to prevent any sort of sliding. I've got roughly 200 miles on the shoe, and it's still holding up great.

Fit is great and the feeling is great but the quality is lacking. I first started with the True Glove and the glue holding the liner in came undone. I thought it might have been due to my feet sweating alot in the True Glove so I exchanged them for the Trail Gloves. Had the first pair for two weeks and the glue holding the toe cap and the midsole to the shoe came undone and the shoes began falling apart. I then exchanged them for another pair. Got the shoes home and took them out of the box only to find the stitching on the top of the tongue was not complete and the tongue was already fraying!! I want to try them one more time but might opt for the New Balances instead.

I started running again after about 20 year break from when I was young and in the Marine Corps.. running shoes have changed a lot, I read about minimalist running and decided to try it after a bout of planters facetious. after training in them for 6 months I ran my first Mini marathon and my feet felt great, calf's were sore but to be expected after 13.1 mile for an amateur...next will be trying the Road glove 2...Thanks for all the Info on your site!

  • Best running shoes ever - but keep your eyes open!

I've been so happy with my trail gloves, that I've bought another pair just for a backup. I use them as my only running shoe. I run 50km/week during all seasons exclusively. They are the best shoe I've ever had, and I've tried quite a few... Unfortunately, this second pair I bought has some sort of an manufacturing error (I presume) on a part where the tongue is stitched to the body of a shoe. From inside. This gives me nasty blister(s) on the upper part of my big toe... Unfortunately this makes them completely unusable for running. That being said, I utterly recommend this shoe BUT inspect your pair carefully for manufacturing problems before buying. Great job dear Merrell people - but please improve quality control.
