I bought a pair of these last summer, but didnt do much hiking. I have recently started hiking again and have worn them quite a bit. On my first hike wearing them they were a bit stiff. The second hike was longer and again, stiff. I started to worry they would never get comfy. You look at these things and they have a more technical boot look. Really nice looking, but they look a bit stiff. Well they really started to break in nice. Now they are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned.

Merrell's Reply: Thanks for your comment, "the most comfortable boots ever". We are very happy to hear how well these ended up working for you, please keep enjoying them!

Bought these for a 6-day 5 night Grand Canyon hike. Based on reviews, I replaced the Merrell insoles with Superfeet insoles. The combination was a winner! The GC trails absolutely kicked my butt, but my feet never gave me a minute of trouble. The Merrell Outbounds kept my feet safe and secure with no blisters and no hot spots. These boots kept me going on the trail, and I credit them (and the Good Lord above!) with getting me in and out of the Canyon. If you're looking for a boot that will provide a great foundation and keep your feet safe on a rugged trail, you should take a long look at the Merrell Outbound. One thing to note: the anti-microbial treatment does give them a unique odor - not really noticeable on the trail, but when you get home you might want to keep them in their box!

Merrell's Reply: That trail is no easy accomplishment, congrats to you! It is great to hear that we were there helping along the way.

I bought these boots with backpacking in Rockies next summer as the main focus. I've had them about a month and I don't know if I've ever worn ANY footwear that has been more comfortable right out of the box! I went on two weekend backpacking trips that involved short hikes in the hilly bluffs of the St. Croix River and I was absolutely amazed at the comfort, the grip and the stability. Also, my feet didn't get too hot or too cold (temps ranged from +78F to +45F), staying comfortable at all times. I sloshed through a bunch of marshy area and some small streams and not a drop of water entered the boots. I also have not suffered any sore spots or blisters. These came highly recommended from one of our local outdoor outfitters and now I know why! I have every confidence that these will be perfect for my mountain treks next summer. I'm sorry to admit that this is my first Merrell experience but, it could end up being a lifelong relationship!

Merrell's Reply: Thank you for this great review. We really appreciate all of your well earned (s)miles!!
