I used to have Hi-Tec boots. They were heavy, uncomfortable, and didn't do me much good in hot temperatures. After years of dealing with chaffed ankles, athletes foot, and blisters, I finally made the choice to get some better boots. So I talked to my friend who is always hiking whenever the trail is dry, and he recommended Merrells. I went down to the local sports store, tried them on, and fell IN LOVE WITH THEM! I can't tell anyone enough how much I love these shoes. I don't even eel them on my feet. It's like they were custom made for my feet. I'm never going to buy any other brand, and now, I have to prepare for my hike to the top of Half-Dome in Yosemite.

I work 6 days a week on a golf-course in western Pennsylvania... I put these boots to the ultimate test by wearing them every day for 8+ hours in varied weather conditions. These boots are great for summer weather. My feet do not sweat at all in these boots, and they are extremely comfortable. However, and for me this is a BIG however, these boots are NOT 100% waterproof... I will say that they are highly water resistant, but if I'm wearing these boots on a dewy morning, my feet get wet... if I'm wearing these boots on a rainy day, my feet get wet... if I'm wearing these boots on a dry day, and accidently step in a puddle, or spray my foot with a hose while cleaning off a piece of equipment, my feet get wet... and this is not because water is getting in through the top opening of the boot, they seem to get wet near the toes.. particularly near the big toe, and the water continues to absorb into the insole. As far as I can tell, there are no visible defects in the interior or exterior of the boot. I'm on my second pair this month, the first pair was returned for the same reason.. I was convinced there was a defect in the Gore-Tex so I got another pair and the same thing happened. Either I'm unlucky, or these are NOT WATERPROOF. Sorry this is review is so long, I hope its helpful for anyone looking to buy these.

I've liked the Moab and Geomorph Blaze models the most for several reasons. 1 - Comfort: They feel like wearing "temperpedic" shoes. 2 - Light Weight: "Work" boots feel like ankle weights compared to Merrell's. 3 - Durability: My boots often get splashed with oil and solvents and the Merrells get dirty but hold up well. I've had the toes split open on many "work" boots from abrasion (the tops of my boots take a beating) which instantly makes them vulnerable to flooding. The toe and heel protective layer on the Merrells has prevented this. 4 - Waterproof: This is very important because my boots get very wet sometimes from being in a car wash and also because I wear my boots home and shovel snow in them. I made the mistake of ordering Proterras when they came out because I liked the style but was disappointed with the comfort. I didn't realize they were minimalist before I ordered them. If there's one thing that could be improved, its traction on wet, hard surfaces. Both the Moabs and Geomorphs have Vibram soles and the Geomorphs seem to have slightly better traction but neither is great. I would think this would be important as a hiking boot would need good traction on wet, slippery rocks. I have a pair of high traction slip on soles made by "shoes for crews" that are basically slip proof which I use when the shop floor is wet for long periods. I'd recommend them to anyone who might be crossing streams on slippery rocks. They only cost about $20 if I remember correctly and they slip on and off (over your shoes) pretty easily. It would be cool if Merrell made a line of "work" boots. All I would change would be toning down the styling (solid black would be nice) and making the soles oil and slip resistant (Timberland Pro soles are good at this). I've recommended Merrells to my co-workers and two of them are now wearing Merrells for work and are very happy with them.
