I have a pair of Phaser's and love them. I have narrow feet and they fit perfectly - med. to thick socks. I have a 2 other pair of Merrell's that have thinner soles that I've about stopped wearing because these are so comfortable. They have survived hiking in East Texas swamps and oil from tractors. I need a new pair for Saturday night dates with my wife.

I got these boots as a gift in 2008 and have only worn them a hand full of times since then - 10 max. They worked well the few times I wore them in the snow at school in eastern Washington. I haven't had the chance to wear them for a while because I moved to Portland, but finally was able to break them out for a 6 day hunting trip in eastern Oregon this past November. The first day we were an hour into an all day hunt and I noticed my toes were getting wet. It was not fun having wet feet for the rest of the day. I ended up rubbing some conditioning gel on some $20 Walmart boots and wore them the rest of the trip with no problems, except they weren't insulated so my feet were really cold. I was going to spray down the Phaser Peak boots with waterproofing but I noticed the cause of the leak was a seam failure in the front where the rubber bottom meets the black part of the sole. Unfortunately I don't have my receipt so I can't take them back, but I'd urge whoever buys these to keep your receipt!

Merrell's Reply:

We recommend wearing your footwear often to keep it in the best conditions. Unworn footwear can break down even if still in the box. We will be in touch with you soon to see how we can help.

Was looking for a boot to get me through winter here in Wisconsin w/o having all the bulk of a pac type boot, so I decided a waterproof hiker would fit the bill perfectly, this boot and the Chameleon which I also bought hit the target dead-on! Great comfort, traction and warmth are just a few of it's attributes, they both feel like a they were made for my feet. I'll never have to buy another pair of hikers again, if I do it'll be a Merrell!

IMO unless you are wearing rubber muck boots your footwear is not 100% waterproof. These will get a little wet if you are really getting soaked but do well otherwise. Also, I have beat mine up to the point they are literally coming apart. At the price point for these boots and with the abuse I've dished out I dont think I could ask for more. They are lightweight, support like a boot, but overall wear like a really stiff running shoe when compared to other backpacking/dedicated hiking boots. Awesome mix which is comfortable and doesnt put a hurt on your knees, ankles, or feet after a full day. MERRELL...PLEASE DONT EVER STOP MAKING SIZE 15 BOOTS.

My pair are so old, they have a different name. They used to be called Chameleons when I purchased them in 2005. Either way, they are Phasers now and they are great. Wore them hiking in the Datil Mountains through rain, mud, thorns, rocks, and more with a full backpack. They have excellent ankle support while not being too rigid, the vibram sole is outstanding and even on what would be slippery rocks held firm, and the waterproofing STILL works. I've replaced the laces with gutted 550 cord in coyote but only because I just wanted to. The laces were still good when I did that two years ago. Will not hesitate to buy another pair of these once my currents are no longer usable.
