I live in Mammoth Lakes Ca right outside of Yosemite. I am a avid hiker/explorer and have tried all types of footwear for hiking. The Verterra Mid is awesome. The grip is amazing and did extremely well on all of the different types of terrain we have. I felt very confident on granite slabs which can be pretty slick. They are true to size with great padding. They are a little bulky, but not to the point it messes with their functionality. I really didn't notice a break in period. Right out of the box I did a little 10 mile trek with no blisters and no complaints. I have had them for about a month now and still holding up strong. The construction is very solid. I would order these again with confidence

I bought these boots about a couple weeks ago for a trip to Yosemite and they did a great job. They did exactly what I wanted, which was asking a lot. Right out of the box they were comfortable and fit well. True to size, I wear a 13 in everything from Vans to dress shoes and medium width. The longest stretch we did was 14 miles in one day with 4000ft+ elevation gain and 7000ft+ descent. The boots did an awesome job. I had about a 30lb pack and would be comfortable doing shorter distances with a heavy, 65lb+ load. We saw all types of terrain in dry and wet conditions. The traction was great on dusty trail, gravel, dry and wet granite and in stream crossings. No leaks whatsoever. Since we did it in summer I was looking for something that wouldn't be hot and I have never liked heavy boots. When they came I was amazed to see how light they were, since they weren't small. I though they would be scaled down significantly, like a barefoot running shoe, but they weren't. Similar size to the Moab. The styling was awesome. I wore them to work for a couple days to break in and got compliments from hipsters to the dressed up legal team. They were insanely comfortable. The midsole is pretty soft and springy. Initially that worried me, but once they packed in I had a boot shaped perfectly to my foot and wasn't too squishy. You will feel the rocks and roots on the trail though. It doesn't hurt, and they will make your feet stronger, but they aren't carbon shanked boot. There is a lot of flexibility. At the end of the trip we did some bouldering and climbing. I made up about 150ft of a crack near north dome before deciding it would be a better idea to come back with climbing shoes. There was a little separation between the midsole and the side of the boot that I found that hasn't effected the waterproofing and should be fine with some glue. Overall, awesome boot. Put them through the ringer in a short period of time and they stood up and then some. Rain, mud, dust, dry and wet rocks, moss covered rocks, creek crossing, they did it all and were light enough to wear around town, and you can really move in them during a day hike.
