I've had these shoes for about a month now, and I figured it was time that I give them my review. Due to the popularity of the original I have decided to break this review into two parts. The first part will be for those who have never owned the Moab, and the second part will be for those who have. PART ONE: **************************************************************************************************************************************** The Moab Rover is a more casual spin on the Moab, a shoe I have owned for two years now, and Merrell's most popular hiking shoe. The shoe's shining feature is its fantastically constructed Vibram outsole. It is, without a doubt, the best designed hiking sole I have used. This, along with a great midsole leads to an overall fantastic shoe for day hikes and everyday use. The upper of the shoe is the main difference between the Moab and the Moab Rover. The Moab is a mixture of mesh and suede. The Rover is a full grain leather with patches of fabric along the back. This means you are sacrificing breathability for ruggedness. The full leather upper also gives advantages by being easier to clean, and having a more casual look to them. I have worn these out on day hikes, and also to church. Very versatile. My original Moabs were used all summer long last summer, as I work at a summer camp, and the Rovers are going to be by my side 24/7 this summer as well. PART TWO: **************************************************************************************************************************************** If you are looking at this review, chances are you have owned, or currently own the Merrell Moabs. The comfort of the original Moabs are exactly what you would expect from the Rovers. The outsole and midsole are seemingly identical to the originals. The leather upper provides a more casual look acceptable in more places than the upper; however, I found this did not hug my foot as well as the originals did, I do have a low instep so this may not be an issue for most. The leather has a nice level of water resistance that aids in how easily the shoe cleans. The Rover also has the same (Gore-Tex faux) waterproof membrane as the original Moab water proof has. This means they are a submergible and fully waterproof shoe. The other notable difference is the Rover has metal grommets as opposed to the fabric loops of the original, this may lead to longer durability in the shoe. WRAP UP: Great, and versatile shoe, wonderful spin-off of a wonderful classic.
