I saw the Chameleon 2 a few years ago and wanted a pair since then. Stumbled into an outlet a year and a half ago and due to a crazy sale got a pair for a steal. I always kicked myself for not buying a second pair. I was sad to see the Chameleon 2 go, but now, I just ordered the Prime and am so happy to see what I consider to be one of the best hiking shoes around be revived!

Color is pretty misleading. Not really green as the picture shows. Pretty much just all around brown. Inside the shoe comfort is good. For the first few days I wore them, the shoe constricted around my ankles area which was pretty painful, and made the shoe almost un-wearable for a few hours straight. After about 5 days the shoe loosened up and no longer constricts around my ankle. Sizing is spot on, besides the ankle portion, the entire shoe fits just right. Love the treads on this thing, and over all the looks, which is the main reason I purchased the shoe.

I have been wearing Chameleon's since 2004 all over the Middle East in various conditions from high in the mountains, to hot and dry in the desert and have put them to the test. The early Chameleon's I,II held up alot better and to me felt more comfortable to the feet, the newer models are not as well made. Getting straight to the point, they are a rugged, lightweight shoe and I love the fact they slip on. However for a shoe that cost 125.00 and up it is time for Merrell to fix the glued toes/sole by stitching them. Rest assured as the owner of 3 pairs of Chameleon's I,II,III and if you are going to wear them outdoors for their true advertised purpose you will be disappointed when the front toe separates from the shoe and a more durable fabric needs to be used in the heal where the foot slides in and out, as this wears out too quick. Wear and tear on the rest of the shoe in my opinion is durable enough( I,II)( the III's and above are junk) for what I put them through. One last thing I might add is the I,II seemed to fit about as sized but the III and IV seem to fit smaller. As I get ready to go back to the large sandbox across the pond, this time I have switched over to OBOZ and will put them to the test.

Work in very rugged conditions and worn daily for long periods of time, usually rotate between 2 pairs every other day.
