In 2007 I bought a mid hiking/mountaineering boot from Merrell while I was in Hungary. I used them to climb several peaks in Europe, Asia, and Africa, including Kilimanjaro. I loved those boots. Fast forward to 2014. In the same boots, I adventured to Southeast Oregon. The arid Alvord Desert in the Shadow of Steens Mountain. On our first day, I noticed a crack in my trusty boots. It widened and basically my boots came to an end. Upon returning to civilization, I called Merrell. They explained that my warranty was long long past but I could return my boots to them for a look. With the return form, they asked my to fill out my top three boot choices and sizes that I would like to have sent to me if they found that I should be given a new pair. I did that, but explained that I didn't need a new pair, I just wondered why my left boot failed. It was definitely a defect of some kind. But given the age of the boots, not incredible. What was incredible was that Merrell sent me a brand new pair of their Himavat Chukka M-Select Dry Boots!!! Right away I put them on and immediately loved the comfort, feel, support, and design of this boot. I have wide feet and these fit perfectly. A little snug with a thicker sock, but that's how I like it, especially since these boots are leather and will conform and stretch to my feet. The M-Select Sole seems outstanding, so far. Grippy and stable with good width and wrap up to the leather. Re-enforced toe and heel make a strong durable toe heel touch down. These boots seem to be a little less mountain grade and a little more everyday hiker or even casual wear style. But I would wear them into the mountains, if I needed to. And I will need to next month when we make our annual pilgrimage into Hells Canyon for hiking, canoeing on the Snake, and fishing. Well done Merrell. You have exceeded the standard and I will continue using your products.
