these shores are great. my feet hurt for a couple of days after i got these, but i think it was how bad my old pair of shoes were.i work in carpentry and the waterproofing is great especially first thing in the morning with the dew or after a rain

Thank you for allowing these shoes time to break in. Since they have a firmer sole, they will take time to form to your foot and break-in to your liking. We love hearing your feedback on how they are performing! Thank you!

I am always a bit sketptical when a shoe is rated waterproof. So far, it definitely is. Been monsoon season this summer so the trails are running with water and mud; but my feet are dry. As with my previous Merrell style hiking and climbing shoes, they did not need breaking in, they fit right, they grip the trail, avoid rock bruising, and are relatively lightweight compared to other brands.

Thank you for putting these Chameleon 5 Waterproof's to the test on your different hikes though the mud and water. We appreciate your valuable feedback and review.

Let me start by saying these shoes are 100% waterproof which was great! The only downside is that they really don't breath enough and my feet always end up sweating to the point of discomfort, no matter the sock/liner combination. Maybe I'm being unrealistic in wanting a breathable, truly waterproof shoe. I still say it is an amazing shoe, maybe I just bought the wrong type of shoe for my situation. Talk about comfort in hiking though. I backpacked on the Appalachian Trail for two weeks in these guys and experienced everything from thick wet mud to snow covered rocks for days and these guys were always comfortable and had tons of traction on those steep climbs. A real nice change from ankle high boots that offer all the support, rigidness, and durability I needed.

Merrell's Reply:

These are a great, supportive shoe for hiking the AT trail. Since these are mostly leather, plus have a waterproof lining in them, they are not going to be as breathable as a ventilated style. A sock that you might want to try while wearing these is our Men's Peak.
