Started wearing the boots on Oct 16 th for an Alaska Trip. I was doing work on several Army Installations. The first day, the boots were subjected to moderate snow and ice and everything was great. The following two weeks my socks were damp although the shoes were never submerged. I suspected when the snow melted from the top it may have leaked into the rubber/leather interface or perhaps the leather absorbed the snow and moisture. The shoes feel great, but I feel if I was truely hiking in back country with snow, the shoes would be wet.

I have owned these over a year now. While they are easily one of the sturdiest and most comfortable shoes around, they are not waterproof as advertised. I used them for the first time during fall and my toe area was wet due to water leaking in at the seam. This is very disappointing given that they are one of the most expensive pairs at Merrell.

  • Boots Do Not Breathe

I have always been pleased with the Merrell products I have purchased. This pair, however, did not measure up. I bought them this past winter for a trip to Colorado. The boots have the usual Merrell comfort, but my socks were soaking wet with sweat after wearing them. I have worn other Merrell boots and never had this problem. As the other reviews have stated, these boots do not breathe well. I only wore them for that one week so I can not comment on how well they are made or how they will hold up.

Merrell's Reply:

We apologize for the breathability issues you have had with the footwear. We will be in contact shortly to see how we can help. Thank you.

I bought these boots for multiple reasons: insulated, waterproof, looks, price Been using them for about 4 months here in northern Afghanistan. At first they where great, very comfortable and easy to wear. But then I noticed my feet where getting wet, I believe this was just from sweaty feet in the beginning and the lack of breath-ability in the boot. But once the snow hit, everything started going wrong. First thing I noticed was my feet where not staying very warm, actually cold most of the time. Secondly, my feet where getting much wetter than before. After closer inspection of the boot, I noticed that the rubber piece that encircles the toe and forefoot area of the boot began separating from the leather upper (not much, just a couple of small places). On the inside, the boot was very wet underneath the insole and this was moving up through the insole to my feet. Bottom line: boot fits great, very comfortable. No breath-ability, leaking water, starting to come apart.
