...not for snow deeper than a few inches. I have been wearing these mids almost daily for the last couple of months and have really put them to the test. My feet have always remained dry and warm, despite wind, (pouring) rain & snow. Traction and support are awesome. I LOVE them! There is only one thing I would change about the boots, and that is the laces. I just had to cut short a great hike I had planned with the baby & my pups - wanted to take advantage of the combination of dusk & the snow that was just beginning to fall over the golf course, but less than 10 mins into our trek, the laces on both of my mids came untied. (This is despite double knots!) At first I thought that maybe I hadn't tied one of them well, but when the second one came undone and my shoes filled with snow, I was totally bummed. I couldn't keep bending down in the foot-deep snow with the baby in the backpack and two energetic pups tugging on their leads to re-tie and empty the shoes. It seems that it was the friction of the snow that was actually loosening the laces! We'll try again tomorrow with a different pair of laces. :D This review shouldn't deter you from choosing these mids because they are AWESOME; I just wanted to give a heads up that you should switch out the laces if you plan to wear them in snow.

I brought this last August. I went on the Camino de Santiago with them. They are very comfortable. I do have problem with the shoe laces. They keep coming loose even when I double knot it. The major complaint is that they are not waterproof. We had to walk in the rain. After 3 hours my feet were soak. I actually had to remove my shoes and wring my socks out. Could someone tell me when I can do to fix this problem? Is there a spray I could use on these shoes so that my feet were not get wet when I encounter rain?

I just wore these boots for the first time, on a several-hour snowshoeing trek in Western WA with about 1,000-foot gain and in temperatures from the teens to mid-20s. I was incredibly pleased with their performance. Despite my poor decision to not wear gaiters, the boots kept my feet warm and dry the entire hike (including during a 30-minute stop for lunch/rest in the middle), even though snow gathered around my ankles and started creeping into my boots. They were comfortable instantly and provided awesome stability and ankle support as they were strapped into my snowshoes. Other reviewers mentioned problems with the laces coming untied, but I used a firm double-knot and did not have this problem. I wear a size 9 for street shoes but bought these in a size 10, as I usually do for athletic footwear, to account for extra pairs of socks and/or foot swelling. The 10 was just right. I plan to use these on more snowshoe adventures this spring and can't wait to try them out for summer hiking across various terrains and in warmer temperatures. If my suspicion is correct, this is the perfect all-season hiking books.

It never hurts to have back-up. The Moab's have been around for a while and do not plan on going anywhere any time soon!

I spent 2 weeks in Glacier National Park hiking between 9-14 miles a day. I got these boots 3 weeks before the trip and put about 8 miles on them walking the dog around the neighborhood even though they don't require break in I think it's important to mold them to your foot. After the first hike in Glacier park (10 miler) My Vibram sole came unglued from the shoe sole. I was in a panic because we still had 13 days left to hike. With no internet and very little cell phone reception I was able to call a good friend back home and explain the situation and ask what I should do. He suggested trying to super glue the sole back together, it worked!! He also immediately contacted Merrell for me. They offered to ship the new boots out to Montana for me during my trip, but since the glue was working he just had them send the boots to Atlanta. Merrell Thank you so much for your great customer service!! I work for a retail store that sells many of Merrell's products & I highly recommend them and tell people about their great customer service. AS for the boots, I must have just gotten a defective part because my mom has the same pair and hers didn't come apart. These boots are very comfortable and very stable on rocks. The traction is great.

Merrell's Reply:

We are so sorry to hear that, but glad we were able to help out and get you a new pair. Thank you very much for spreading the Merrell love to others and supporting our brand. We hope you have any new hikes and adventures to come while hiking in your Moab Mid's.
