Poor adjustability, weird arch support These shoes dry very quickly , but that has really been their only redeeming feature after about 100km on the trail. It seems as if they are aggressively trying to correct pronation, but the affect just makes for swelling on the inside of the foot and ankle for me. There are lots of straps and buckles that seem like they would let you adjust them, but they are sewn to the upper at several points, which prevents any reasonable adjustment and mostly makes opportunities for hotspots and other discomfort. I usually have luck with Merrells for light hiking, but these have been a real disappointment.

Newbie hiker This is my first pair of trail/hiking shoes. I've used it two times already in two different mountains. The first one was a dry, dusty, grassy mountain and the second one was on a rocky, slippery, with rivers to cross. I can say that the shoes is really great. I tend to slip a lot (not because of the shoes but because I'm clumsy) and the shoes has really nice grip. Walked with it for at least 4-5 hours and my feet are not complaining.

Can't walk more than a mile in these shoes These are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn. I bought these in February for moderate hiking (no more than 6 miles per trip) and have worn them less than 10 times. The back of the shoe (along your heel and Achilles tendon) is designed in an arch that digs into your Achilles. If you compare the design of this shoe to other wearable shoes, it is obvious the back of this shoe arches in to dig into your Achilles. There is plastic (I think that is the material) in the back of the shoe to support this arch, and this torture device has already worn holes in the back of the shoe (that I haven't even worn 10 times). A picture of the shoe is attached. It has also put a hole in the skin of my Achilles (I still have a scar from 6 months ago when I first wore them). And, I have another new flesh wound from trying to wear them last weekend even with my ankles taped to protect my skin. They aren't waterproof or water resistant in any manner either. I wore them in dewy grass and my feet were literally sloshing in water. These were an unbelievably disappointing purchase and I am throwing these relatively expensive shoes in the trash after suffering through wearing them less than 10 times. I compared these to other styles of hiking shoes Merrell makes recently, and noticed there were very few designs with this torture device arch in the back.  I would not recommend these shoes to anyone wishing to walk more than a mile.

Very disappointing These leaked water immediately in damp grass, before rain arrived. Definitely not waterproof. I have only worn them twice as they are a waste of money.

Hello, thank you for your review. We are sorry to learn that you have been disappointed with one of our products. However the Waterpro Maipo is a style designed especially for water sports and is expected to get wet at the upper is made of mesh. It is designed to let water in and out easily so it will dry quickly. For a waterproof style, please view our products in the Waterproof and Gore-Tex selection. The Merrell Team
