I bought these boots for my wife who suffers from Reynaud's Syndrome (sufferers lose blood to their extremities extremely easily and it is painful)so it is crucial that she is kept warm in particular her hands and feet. Up till now whatever boots we have bought didn't really help that much even quite expensive ones. However, these Merrell boots are fantastic and have so far kept her feet really warm (if you knew my wife you would understand how unbelievable that is!!). it is still early days yet as the really cold weather has not set in yet but she has even complained that her feet were too warm at one point so the signs are good. Yes they are expensive, but they appear to be well made so we expect them to last more than one winter, and if they work as well as they have so far then it will be money well spent. At the end of the day I am a great believer in 'you get what you pay for' so we cant recommend these boots highly enough. In fact I think that Merrell should get in contact with the Reynauds Society as other sufferers would be interested too.

I bought these boots in Oct/Nov 2013 and wear them on the school run which is just around the corner and to go to the shops in - they are worn everyday but probably only a mile is walked in them at the most. I have noticed the sole on one boot now has a hole appearing which to be honest I did not expect after owning them for 5/6 months, the other boot is fine. I have to say I am a little disappointed that given the price of £145 they have last such a short time I expected them to be my go to winter boots not a one season and bin boot. I have owned a few pairs of Merrell walking boots/trainers/winter boots and this is the first time I have had an issue but it does not help my disappointment.

Hi Hayley, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with these boots. You are right, these should have lasted much longer. Our consumer team have sent you an email with some further advice on how to get these returned - Merrell.

Bought for my wife. She says they are practical, comfortable and warm. Warm means something given that we experienced unBritish really cold weather in New York.

  • Tough, elegant boots - but sizing is big!

Thank you everyone for your comments - very helpful. These boots are gorgeous, well made and nicely resistant to water and mud, but the sizing comes up very wide and long. I mail-ordered a size 7.5 pair, and they were much wider & looser than I expected (my feet are wide but short). I already have a pair of Merrell hiking boots, and the 7.5 fit me perfectly, but the 7.5 in these boots felt like a size 8! They are wide both at the toes and the ankle (perhaps to accommodate thick Winter socks?). Unfortunately it was too loose to even put an insole or foam at toes or heel. Merrell were very kind and gave the full refund so I could order a size 7, which I did, and they are fit very well. The boots are not too heavy, very warm, and easy to slip on and off using the zip. You can even walk short distances without the zip closed and they don't fall off (!) They are a handsome boot - stylish and practical without being fancy - and the faux fur is nice and soft. However, I was surprised that walking in it is a bit like walking in wellies (gumboots) as the sole doesn't flex as much as I expected; it is hard to take light steps. I have got them for wearing in in mud, puddles, and general rough countryside moments - when wellies would be too informal, and they really suit this need. Sometimes I need to walk a few miles, and they've been very comfortable for that, too. I will take good care of them and just pray that they will be well made enough to last a few seasons!

These look great and are lovely and warm but having worn them this morning, when the pavements and roads were somewhat icy, unfortunately the grip on the sole wasn't as effective as I thought it would be and I could feel my foot slipping a little.
