I like these shoes for trail running, they are not really a barefoot shoe as the sole is quite thick, but they allow me to run with a more natural form. They keep my feet nice and dry in the wet. I wouldn't recommend them for urban running in the wet as they are slippy on concrete, stone and marble (though fine when dry). Asphalt is not a problem in the wet or when dry. Would like Merrell to develop a barefoot shoe for urban running, Parkour and something with more feel through the sole.

I bought these to wear in the wet - Goretex - and am very disappointed that they are so slippery on some surfaces. To add to the others mentioned in another review: metal. Any drain covers, manhole covers etc of which there are plenty where I live, are as slippery as ice in the wet. These shoes are too dangerous to run in. On a trivial note, every step makes a noise. I thought this would pass as they wore in, but it hasn't. Even on carpet - slap, slap, slap. An expensive mistake.

Keeps me warm and dry during winter runs. Feels a bit thicker than the Trail Glove which I've concluded is a summer shoe. Still very light and great to run in - extremely comfortable. Slightly smaller than expected

Having enjoyed a couple of pairs of Trail Gloves for running, these offer a similar feel when walking, with the benefit of very good waterproofing. If you're over ankle deep in mud then you'll still get soggy, but for most conditions these offer great comfort while keeping you dry. Sizing was the same as the Trail Glove & overall shape is very similar. However, these feel slightly stiffer due to a marginally thicker sole which allows for deeper (more grippy) tread & also lacing which extends a little further towards the toe. There's really not much in it though, & certainly not enough to make either walking or running in them any less comfortable.

  • Good Shoes but...

The shoes seem fine and grip OK on most surfaces. I was expecting less in the shoe to make it more barefoot but then that was probably not practical! My only negative point - similar to an earlier reviewer - is that when walking fast they make a VERY loud noise, so I don't wear them too often as the noise is just too much. Any suggestions welcome to stop this - I have tried wearing socks, stuffing with tissue etc, assuming it is trapped air escaping but no success to date. Will get five stars when this is sorted :)
