This is my second pair of Chameleons, the first pair let in water badly but were replaced by Merrell (for this year's style) with no quibbles. They took no time at all to wear in and are extremely comfortable, robust but not too heavy or clunky but good grip on the soles. I have quite wide feet, normally size 4, but the size 5 fits perfectly. My only criticism is that this newer model does not have cleats to hold the laces tight.

Bought my boots as they fit beautifully in the shop and felt like slippers. On my first walk, I got 2 blisters, one on the inside of each heel (very symmetrically placed), which is to be expected the first time they're worn. However, I didn't bargain on the sizeable bruise they left on the outside of my right ankle. It was at least 2 inches long and an inch wide, and my ankle is still sore today, over a week later. I'm supposed to be doing a 17 mile walk next weekend but I'm dreading it in these boots. I bought Merrells on the recommendation of a friend and agreed as they were so comfortable in the shop. I'm now worried I have to buy another new pair, of a supposed lesser quality, as I cannot wear them for any length of time and cannot afford another expensive pair. It's a 2 hour round journey to the retailer but I am going to take them back and only hope that the after sales is good.

Merrell's Reply:

Hi there, Thanks for your review. Some of our customers may find that a mid style boot is not suitable for them and they do need to just select a shoe style. If you think there is an issue with the footwear, please return it to the retailer for further assistance and advice - The Merrell Team.

Thanks to a savvy assistant at Blacks in Brent Cross, I found the perfect walking boots for the first time in 12 years of daily walking. I've come to the Merrell site to find an equivalent pair of Spring/Summer Merrells and felt inspired to share my comments. I realise that until now I have been wearing ill-fitting boots. I thought I knew my shoe size until the assistant suggested that I should be able to fit 2 fingers between my heel and the boot when standing to check for size and I should wear hiking socks. Oh and she said to wear them in, "wear them indoors everyday for 2 weeks - if you're not happy, bring them back and we'll change them" I bought them in a January sale and have worn them everyday since. Bargain!

Bought from website as local supplier did not have my size. Unfortunately both boots leaked on first real outing, but were replaced immediately with no problem, and replacements are fine. Thanks for excellent service! Like other reviewers I would prefer conventional cleats. I love hillwalking and QForm has changed my life as I no longer suffer from knee pain when using Merrell boots. I have several pairs for different kinds of walking and everyday use.

It's nice to have found a big enough women's boot (size eight and a half). The purple tape is nice, although I feel this may become a weak point on the boot. The eyelets for the laces do let the boot down and make it hard to do up the laces properly, or lace up for an uphill/ downhill climb. But I chose it as a lightweight boot for when I didn't want to wear heavy-duty walking boots. And for that it ticks all the right boxes. It's comfy too, so all in all I'm very happy. But if they eyelets were better I'd give it five out of five.
