The last several pairs of hiking shoes I have bought have all broken down within 4-6 months. These are holding together extremely well. I like to have one pair of shoes for everything. I purchased the model previous to these about a year ago (which are virtually identical to the updated model) , and they still look like new. I wear them all day, everyday. I’ve worn them in deep snow, backpacking, mountain biking, traveling, running, at work, and in class. When it snows, I just wear thicker socks, and my feet stay plenty dry. I wouldn’t try scaling a mountain with them in the winter, but for shoveling the sidewalk they work just fine. I would have given them 5 stars, but the GORE-TEX doesn't breathe as well as it could. However, the new model uses GORE-TEX XCR instead, which should resolve this issue anyway.
