Shoe sizing question? Hello I just purchased the Trail Glove 4 and so far love them. I have a question on sizing. How much room should be from the end of my toe to the end of the shoe? When i stand there is about the width of my thumb from my toe to the end of the shoe. Is that too much ? should it be more snugged to the end of the shoe? thanks.

Comfortable and protective, but too bulky to be considered "barefoot" I've owned the original Trail Glove and the Vapor Glove 2. I purchased this shoe because I had worn a hole in the light-weight upper of my Vapor Gloves. I was hoping for a shoe with similar characteristics my beloved original Trail Gloves. Compared to the original, the Trail Glove 4 is more protective, resulting in a heavier, less flexible shoe. The sole is noticeably cushioned and doesn't provide the ground-feel I expect from a supposedly barefoot shoe. The deeper knobs provide great traction, but contribute to the cushy feel when running or walking on hard surfaces. I highly recommend going sockless to avoid even more unnecessary cushioning. The toe box is also slightly narrower than the original. On the bright side, the new lacing system and tongue design are more secure and comfortable (for me). The Trail Glove 4 is also much better looking than previous versions. This may be a good shoe for someone transitioning from traditional running shoes, but I recommend the Vapor Glove for a truly barefoot feel.

The last pair of shoes I need I'm picky as hell when it comes to footwear. I'm very active, size 14, wide footed, flat footed and prefer 0 drop shoes. There's not a lot out there that gives me that "ahhhhhhh" feeling. I loved the toe box of my vapor gloves but, they were ugly as sin in size 14 so, I decided to try the Trail Glove 4's out at a local REI. Right away, I was hooked on these. I planned on using these solely as a trail running shoe but while breaking them in, I decided that they were going to become my all-day shoes lol. Then, one day, I wore them to the gym on leg day and realized they were incredible for squats, deadlifts and just anything I was doing in general. So, I bought another pair. I wear these shoes and these shoes EXCLUSIVELY now. They're so versatile and so comfortable. I own two pairs (one for trails & one for daily and gym wear) and already have my eyes on the newest color. Seriously cannot recommend these shoes enough. Especially for the price point. The Vibram sole has held up amazingly. The toe box is perfect for my feet and normal shoes in my size feel too small now. The really nice thing with these: they're great looking shoes in just about any attire.

Finally found a worthy replacement I have Plantar Fasciitis and couldn't find a shoe that helped until I found the original Trail Glove. Magically over the course of 4-5 months the pain receded while wearing the Trail Gloves. There was a painful transition when I initially started wearing them but then again my feet hurt anyway. As I wore them my foot and lower leg muscles got stronger and then one day I realized I had no pain. So when those wore out I got the TG3. About 6 months ago I went to purchase another pair but I couldn't find them. Last week Merrell sent me an email with the TG4! 5 minutes after I read that email I had my new shoes on the way. The newest version fits like a glove and still provides the best support for my feet of any shoe on the market today. If you have or know someone with Plantar Fasciitis these shoes are worth a try, just make sure to transition slowly into full time wear.

Great shoe but the sizing has changed quite a bit The shoe looks to be improved in every way. The tread pattern on the bottom is much better and the new tongue and lacing system is great. Nice updates. However, the sizing has changed quite a bit. I comfortably wear a 9.5 in the trail glove 3 but I can barely squeeze my foot into a 9.5 in the trail glove 4. The issue is the forefoot width primarily. it is way narrower, which is a step backwards in a minimalist shoe design. A wide toe box allows the toes to spread on impact to absorb shock and allow the foot to function properly. The new, narrower toe box is just not for me. I can get in a 10 but the length is too much. Too bad. I'll have to find another trail shoe.
