I am a Park Ranger working in Australia. I have just purchased my 3rd pair of Merrell Moab Goretex shoes. This has been over a 3 year period of wearing my shoes every day through rain, hail and shine. Very happy with the shoes - and considering the amount of punishment I put them through - happy with the wear and tear. Nice and ventilated in Summer, waterproof in winter and very comfortable!

After 6 months of continuous wear - my shoes are ready to go in the "just for a jog" pile. I spent a lot of time considering a variety of shoes, and in the store, the Moabs fit great, looked solid - and for my first trek, the Tour du Mont Blanc, they were a godsend. They survived a further few treks through Switzerland, Croatia and Slovenia. But now that the snow has arrived, I've noticed how much wear they've had - particularly around the outer foot. From a pair of Gore-Tex Cross Trainers, I expected to get at least a year out of them. But now I can't wear them to the shops without my feet freezing and the shoes soaking up water. I've applied two rounds of Nikiwax to try to help, but to no avail. Next pair: WILL NOT BE MERRELL.

These have been the most comfortable shoes ever. They have been with me up mountains, through puddles, even a few pubs and they kept me dry the whole time. Will be getting another pair of Moab GTX.

I brought these after reading many rave reviews of Merrell footwear, and the certainly seemed comfy in the shop, but after walking in them for only an hour or two I found that the pain that they caused by creasing on the top of my left foot became almost unbearable. My feet are not different sizes, which I know can happen, but it does seem strange that it is only my left foot that is affected. I've tried different insoles and such, but nothing has made a difference. This has not ever been an issue with any other shoe I have purchased, someone did suggest it was because the Gore-Tex is less flexible or some such thing. Anyway, seemed like great shoes in the store, but sadly unwearable for me for long periods. It sad because I bought them especially for an upcoming trekking holiday, but I think I'll be better off with my $70 sneakers and leave the $230 hiking shoes at home! Something to beware of if considering these shoes! Without this particular problem they'd be great shoes, so if you don't have this issue then maybe they're the shoe for you!
