I've been lucky enough to get my hands on a pair of barefoot runners - Trail Glove I think they were called. I'm fairly new to the barefoot craze, being directed to it by a friend and chiropractor. Initially I was surprised at how it affected the muscles in my calf, as my legs weren't used to midfoot/forefoot running, coming from being a casual runner with heel strike tendencies. What I noticed however, was despite not being used to the different muscles being activated, aerobically the run did not seem to pain me as much. I guess they're right about it being a more "efficient" way to run. It did hurt my calves - or more accurately, worked my calves much more than usual, but after starting off with light runs to get me going, I've really strengthened my lower legs, and don't get quite the tightness in my hamstrings I sometimes got previously running in my neutral shoes. A very exciting new product, looking forward to many more miles in them!
